So, how many of you newschoolers read the bible? If you do read the bible, where do you like to read? I really enjoy acts. Sorry if this is a repost, I just needed somewhere to read.

I wouldn't consider myself religious though I would say I am spiritual. I went to catholic school so we had to read it but when I got to public school and we had teachers make references or or use it to relate to something, 98 percent of the kids looked like retards because thy plainly had no idea what the teacher was even talking about. I think you have to read it if you want a decent grasp of history but as for the truth in it IDE have to say some things are good but few and far between.

that logic nullifies most of the bible then.

You can't say some of the messages have been lost in translation when they reflect negatively upon religion, but then claim it's a literal interpretation when it's a passage about the good in religion.

I've never read the entire bible, but it is a significant piece of literature in history, so i can't talk bad about it.

I have my pocket sized bible along with my stash, i make sure to read each page before they get rolled up and i use them for a snooter.

the greatest fictional story book ever.

i think the bible is great, when you use it as guidelines to being a better human.

but it sucks when people take it all to literally. also when religion stops being about personal beliefs and starts being about imposing your will and thoughts onto others.

Also, that wasnt a very serious post, but don't go there. I respect people for their beliefs, and i dont force my beliefs onto others, i'm just saying, - as my opinion, - that religion is fucking stupid. The reason for many, many many many wars and conflicts etc. This world be better off without religion. That being said, i understand that people find comfort by having something to believe in. And i respect that, but in my opinion, if you are just going to think reasonable for ONE second, - Religion does not make any fucking sense.

There's good parts of the bible. Stuff like, be nice to thy neighbour and shit like that, and then theres god erasing entire cities just to prove a point to people, teach them a lesson, and shit like that.

Tell me what exactly, that makes sense?

Ive read the bible almost all the way through. I was deeply Christian until recently. But one day I woke up and realized that there nothing after death. It all ends. And that was the end of my spirituality.

im not sure what you mean by making sense as in what context are you talking about the bible cause to be honest jewish people really view god as a hardass like that. and christians like to kind of like to take a lighter approach and view god as a nice man who rewards people for being good, and not sacrificing sheep or their own children :)

and for why i like my religion and stick by it is because of the reason below
virtues, how to live your life, someone is looking out for you (its comforting for me), the sense of community (i belong to a youth group and we go hang out alot go skiing play golf go to eachother cabins) and the charity were looking out for other people and helping other people.

ill admit there are some christian denominations that i disagree with. im not gonna go into detail cause that would take too long but basically because of how they view their higher power or how you get to heaven etc...

but to me, the whole concept of religion is stupid. that theres a greater being that controls everything. then why the fuck does all those people in africa die everyday? i'm sure its an overused argument, but still.

Why we live is simply an accident. Something went wrong (or right) in space one day, and boom a planet were made in an explosion. Boom. Bang, done. And over a million of million billion years things evolved (this is proven stuff) and eventually we became.. we. I'm not teaching you about evolution, i'm just saying that we are living as of an 'accident', theres nothing after death and just live your fucking lives without being controlled by a book. the only things that are sure in life, are death, and taxes. but if you want to stick to your thing, do so.

it does in a way, if you did something bad as a kid your parents would just let you get away with it? most likely not. Parents punish children out of love because they want to show them the consequences of their wrong doing. That is the same with this....

well as for the african argument, people are called every day to go help the starving out there. i mean red cross is a christian organization. feed my starving children sends lots and lots of food to starving communities. in my school which is a christian school we have fundraisers to send money to people in africa or in homeless shelters in the twin cities area.
yes im aware that athiests do this every day as well but im saying that there also alot of people that do it for religious reasons also.

and as for the big bang, i know for a fact that the catholic church is one of the biggest endorsers of modern science (evolution and stuff like that). but god creating the world is what the view as correct in the moment so that is what they are going to teach.

when i was little i used to think god was evil and the devil was good because the devil never did anything wrong. hey eat this apple because your living in a fake world and this will open your eyes. hey Jesus gods being a dick and wont let you eat here some food. also don't forget about that story where god kills a persons family takes away his house and gets him sick just to prove a point.
