So, how many of you newschoolers read the bible? If you do read the bible, where do you like to read? I really enjoy acts. Sorry if this is a repost, I just needed somewhere to read.

I love John 17, but as far as books, probably Psalms is my favorite that Ive read through

And to Bible haters, you guys are seriously missing out on a powerful, amazing truth that is a necessity to a truly happy, fulfilling life. Hate if you want, but that's my belief.

I really like Proverbs, it's like a huge library of encouragements. And to colorado_kid, you are the MAN! It is plainly so much more respectable and difficult to post your real beliefs and just stand up for yourself than it is to just dish out angry and immature comments

I love the Old Testament. Mostly because it is filled with all the bad-ass stories we have all heard about. Like Adam and Eve, Noah’s arch, and the crazy old man named Moses. Plus there is a shit load of subtle racism and sexism hidden in the stories, which makes the stories kind of comedic.

This isn't a matter of religious debate (although this being NS, it will probably become the usual shitstorm). The Bible is a text you must read, if you want to explore the realms of literature. If you're going to understand books like Paradise Lost, East of Eden and The Master and Margarita, you must have some experience with the Bible.

Who cares if it is a religious text? This doesn't prohibit me from learning from it if I'm not a Christian. The Bible is just as capable of teaching valuable lessons and providing insight as Jane Austen or John Steinbeck.

Why is this so hard to understand?

The one thing about organized religion that always pissed me off is the fact that members of each religion relentlessly try to push their beliefs onto others. But I am starting to realize that many atheists are just as bad, if not worse. Just believe what you want to believe, and quit shoving it down people’s throats

I love the bible, i read hebrews, proverbs, and the corinthians books alot, almost on repeat. not a big fan of the old testament, but the bible is the word of god so we ought to embrace all of it

although there are a lot of "fairytales" in the bible, MOST of the things written in it really do encourage good behavior and kindness and respect and selflessness and other things which EVERYBODY can relate to and ought to observe, even if you dont believe in god or heaven or any of the miracles.

that blind hatred is so insignificant compared to the good things that happened because of it. contrary to popular belief, most people who go to church dont wage holy wars, hate gay people, rape babies, or any of the other things people often associate with the church. on the other hand, the church donates billions of dollars, gives people hope who need it badly, and gives other people a heightened sense or morality.

I don't know how I'd live my life in a pure and faithful way without the bible. I'd probably go around not killing children or something horrible like that.
