Word! Although to the OP I believe you are right and wrong. Can an argument change ones core political values? No. However, an argument can change someones vote on a specific bill, senator, house memember, governor... etc. The success rate may be slim but the result can be large.
One argument is not enough. A series of successful arugments can be enough to persuade people to change parties, or a stance on a certain subject small or large. I myself hate bi-partisanship and urge every voter to look at each scenario at a case by case scenario. No one should blindly trust someone or something solely based on political party. Sometimes a Democrat is right. Sometimes a Republican is right. Sometimes there may not be a right or wrong and one must fight towards the most just solution. Finding a political balance is of the utmost importance and this is achieved through argumentation and persuasion, but most of all being informed is paramount.
