Ok, so im deciding between the griffons and sth 12's right now i am thinking about trading my griffons for some salomon sth's because the grifffons weight very little but i heard the toe piece breakes mad fast
i have griffons and i dont really like them. a lot of plastic that easily gets ripped up. also i broke the breaks on my griffons 2 times in one year. im not sure about sth but they looks nice and if you get them, get sth driver
Someones gonna say go with the driver toe of the sth but honestly it all depends how hard you ski. along with your weight and height, the griffon could be good for you
if your that light you dont really have to worry about getting heavy duty bindings but putting that aside idk why everyone always says griffons suck i have griffons and i love them
Good timing, I am deciding between both the Griffon and the Driver 12 bindings for this season as well. I think for me it will just come down to pricing.
I've ridden both the STH 12 (2009) and Griffon (2011), and I definitely liked my Griffons more.
Both bindings worked well, but once I got into the Griffons, the STH's felt a little worse. I always felt like they were going to break or release. The heel pieces got really loose, brakes got bent all the time, and I started to get a few unnecessary releases. Could have been that I didn't have them set up right, or for any other reason you can think of...
My Griffons, up to this point, haven't had any issues with durability, and seem to just be a little beefier than the STH 12. Haven't once had to replace brakes, and I just feel more secure in them.
To each their own I guess haha. But I would consider the STH Driver though. One of my friends has them, just thrashes his skis, and they still look almost brand new, and he says they work great.
im coming up on my 3rd year on my griffons and i absolutely love them. there was only a few days when i was out of the park and i ski 20 daysish a season.(our season is short)everything is fully intact and working properly. I have broke a couple brakes off but who doesnt these days. If you can get the griffons for a real good deal i would eat them up. they are really sick bindings.
i had sth12s on old fujatives, and i hated them, my boot would get sideways on the binding after a bad landing and it was impossible to turn like that, and everytime i would have to stomp my ski agaisnt the ground for my boot to get back on place.. oh and everytime my ski came off, the backpiece of the binding would move so that my boot wouldnt fit on the binding anymore and i would have to get a skrew driver to readjust it... pretty annoying when all the way up the hill... IM NOT SURE TOUGH IF THESE BINDINGS WERE JUST A SUNDAYPIECE OR WHAT SO I WOULD ASK OTHER PEOPLE TOO
i even liked my rossingols scratch11s more, and i have griffons now and they work perfectly fine
i have last years sth 14 driver toe and i definitely recommend them they are really light yet super durable. i seriously was taking mad hits and they held up with no problems. they kept me in when they needed to and released when they needed to. ive ridden with griffons and they just feel heavy and cheap
Not too relevant but I had STH 12's and broke at least 5 breaks in one year. I upgraded to STH 16 driver toe (obviously) andI have yet to break anything. But as for STH 12 or Griffons I would say keep the griffons if you already have them.
At 120 lbs., the Griffons should be perfect for you. I love mine (mounted on '09 Hellbents) and I'm 5' 9", 150 lbs. Seriously, durability issues on those have been way overblown. The vocal minority wins again.
i rode griffons all last season and did not find one problem with them, and i'm 150 pounds. the only problem with them was one brake bent, one time. but i just bent it back and all is still well. i had head mojo 12s before that and i love my griffons compared to them, simply so much more responsive when carving and scissoring. if you weigh in at only 120, the griffons will have a plenty high din for you, especially if you're getting the new 13 din.
also, i literally have like 6 friends i ski with that have griffons. 1 of them broke their brakes, and i don't think that anyone had any other problems, other than bent brakes. plus, my 200+ pound friend rides them basically with the din setting maxed out lol, yeah i know it's not the safest thing.
Does anyone know if the new Griffon 13 binding is still made of the composite plastic or if its more similar to the Jester in materials? Can't find any info on this
