Help: Anyone with a Weifeng 717 tripod

Hey guys, my friend just bought this tripod and it wont be in for a while, im leaving for a trip out of state and i told him i would have a slider done before i left.

This is a DIY project that i have almost completed, but im lacking a few very important measurements.

take a look at this vid below:

Pause the vid at 1:00, I need to know the length of that bolt and the width. im guessing 3/8ths? I also need to know the width and depth of that convex metal piece that sits in the concave part of the tripod itself.

Now pause the vid at 2:33, whats the width of the smallest hole there?

On this tripod you can take the ball mount off (concave metal thing) and it will have a 3/8 inch bolt on top. If you put the ball mount on the tripod and the attach the slider onto the 3/8 inch bolt on the top it will be easiest. the head will then attach to a 3/8 inch bolt on top of the sliding part of a slider. Did this help?

yes actually, i mainly needed to know the size of the bolt. my plan is to put the slider directly on the legs then have the head on the slider. so i needed to know what size hole to drill so that the tripod head would fit onto my slider. i still dont quite understand how i should go about attaching the slider to the legs, just use a 3/8ths inch bolt and use a wing nut with a washer or 2?

That head has a bowl mount on it. You can take the bowl off and attach that to the legs like its meant to be. Then attach the slider to the top off the bowl mount

oh that makes things easier. now im guessing that bowl has a 3/8ths inch hole in it right?

The bowl has a 3/8 inch bolt that is on the top and bottom if thats what you mean

yeah exactly. so basically im gunna take the bowl off and set it in the cradle, then put my slider on top of that, throw a 3/8th inch bolt through it to secure it to the tripod and use a wing nut so i can finger tighten it.
but with the bowl off the tripod head, how will the head be able to attach to my piece of 2 by 4 that i want to mount this thing on?

The bowl already has a 3/8 inch bolt and a knob at the bottom to tighten.

As for the head it will attach to a 3/8 inch bolt but I dont know the tread type

On the top it does but on the bottom there is no bolt

hmm. this makes no sense to me. i guess im just gunna have to wait until i get the tripod.
