i never ever say this about skis, but this decision might as well come down to graphics, just because the skis are so similar.....well maybe if one had durability issues, but if i were picking a mad fatty BC ski i really would have absolutely no preference between the two

Going by the numbers, the made'n Ak is definately wider, it measures 138-108-128 and the Jp vs Julien measures 126-103-116. So if you want somethin super fat go for the maidens, but if you want something just a little less go for the JP vs Julien. Their dimensions are comparible to the PR except for the larger waist.

yeah but isn't it bad for the floation like if you ski regular your tail doesn't go in the snow so it's harder to ski regular in pow?

i think, that you can go in the deepest powder on earth with the JP/JULIENs. A 103 waist is enough. I was riding with my 75 waist ROSSIGNOL RPM 17 through deep pow and they were fine. I don't think that the specification of the JPs on BACKCOUNTRY KICKERS is too bad. If a ski has a waist over 100, it'll be fine, no problem what they were made for.

^^The Sugar Daddy Pimp Editions are the EXACT same dimensions as the 183cm version (99 mm waist) except they are a 193cm. The Big Daddy's are still 193cm with a 107 waist.
The new topsheets on the Big Daddy's and Sugar Daddy's are fucking rad.

pends on what you're gonna do.
like pag said, if you want the width to actually ski pow, twins are kinda bad so the higher tail would be bad, as it would raise the tail, sink the tips and make it hard for you to actually ski it.
if you wanna jump in pow and land switch, then yeah the high tail would be good cos you tend to be in areas that are easier to get in and out of, and so less of a worry in terms of sinking or not.

jonski - what are you talking about? Twintips don't even engage the snow -- how would they affect how the ski floats or doesn't on the snow? What matters much more than simply saying 'twintips don't sink' is the mount point of the bindings, the stiffness of the tail, and the dimensions and surface area behind the binding.
In fact, you could make an argument that because twin-tips produce a rooster tail in snow, that the snow is actually pushing DOWN on the tail, causing it to sink and bring the tips up!

I've always thought twins were better in pow because they drag the tail down. I don't see how they would possibly bring the back of the ski to the surface.

^^ya, to me it seems like a twin is similar (somewhat) to a ski with a swallow tail. there is less ski in the back so i will sink further down. correct me if im wrong.
