IPhone voicemail problem: no notification of new messages. HELP

hey guys,

I know quite a few of you have iphones and I'm hoping somebody can help me fix this issue.

My phone doesn't ever tell me when I have a new voicemail, I just found this out today and I had 40+ voicemails from the past few months including 1 from a prospective employer that I obviously missed so I'm pretty fucking annoyed.

I googled it and tried what I could but it isn't helping much. IMPORTANT NOTE: My previous phone was a blackberry on which I had that idiotic Google Voice voicemail shit, which could not be deleted. I fear it's still tied to my cell number and that I may just be screwed until I get a new phone number which isn't really a feasible option.

Please help me out if you have any experience with this, and if not, don't clutter the thread. Thanks

I tried a troubleshooting suggestion I found on macrumors and Reset All Network Settings and rebooted the phone, but it still did not notify me of the new voicemail (i used another phone to try).

it saves the messages just fine, but never tells me i have a new one. I realize I can just call my V mail everytime I have a missed call...which I will now, but that really sucks since it's not usually an important thing.

Current firmware is 4.3.5 assuming you haven't jailbroken in which case I'd go to 4.3.2 but giv e that a try then message me back and I can guide through supplementary trouble shooting :3

my notification is usually a little red dot over the voicemail section or just on the phone icon as well

nope haven't jailbroken.

when i connect it to my comp a promp comes up that says, "A new iPhone software version (4.2.10) is available for the iPhone “xxxx iPhone”. Would you like to download it and update your iPhone now?

so it's saying 4.2.10 is the current one, le fuck?
