Something needs to be done about the serious lack of info on the pros. Here is Tom Wallischs full wikipedia entry.Tom Wallisch is a professional freeskier from Pittsburgh, Pensylvania. He has won Euro X slope, the Utah Dew Tour slope stop, and the NZ Games slope style. He is also known as "the pretzel man," and "the king of afterbang." Tom Wallisch is 5'9" and 150 pounds. thats it? 3 lines? someone on wikipedia should step the shit up and do some editing.

Wikipedia is only as good as the people who contribute to it. Based on the behavior of the average internet user, I wouldn't say wikipedia is legitimate for anything other than getting a general idea on a subject. Quote wikipedia in any serious environment (college, even some high schools) and you will be laughed at.

TL;DR great for finding out stuff on subjects you are interested in, bad to use as a reference.

I've used it before as a source in my uni classes, but I also cite papers that confirm the legitimacy of wikipedia as an accurate source.

Try vandalizing any major wiki page, and you'll see how quickly it gets corrected.

To the few people that replied to my post thing.

Wiki mods do run a tight ship, and even I begin every research endeavor with Wikipedia. This way I can get a summary on the subject. I also check what literature was referenced when the page was written and use those as a place to begin my search for resources. When I actually write my paper, I never directly use anything from the wiki page. Call me old school, but that's what I was taught.
