i'm also pretty interested in this as i've been having problems with my right knee. I have an appointment to hopefully get assessed for a brace but it's not till the end of the month. threads for suggestions
Unless you're recovering from a knee injury, I wouldn't wear one. If you're worried about keeping your knees intact, hit the gym instead. Strengthening your legs is a much better preventive measure.
I have dislocated my right knee twice so if I do anything active I have to wear a brace. When my knee isn't bothering me I wear one like this:
