I have just been informed of some very grave news. My local ski hill has just informed their season pass holders that there will no longer be a pipe next year. Their reasoning went something like: "It is the last thing to open and the first thing to close." Living in Iowa I consider myself lucky to be able to ski at one of the few resorts in the midwest to actually have a pipe, (14 ft but its still a pipe). Now that the pipe is history I dont know what to think. Yea sure the pipe isnt packed but there is still a small but determined group of iowa pipe riders that cant wait for the pipe to open, and to hear that it might never open is hard to hear.
This exactly. I wonder why my resort in New York even bothers to make the pipe. Other than a few snowboarders and the odd skier, the only people the ride through the pipe are little kids and gapers. It requires a ton of snow and a lot of space, and with the size of my park (not super big) that snow and space could go towards making other legit features that people will actually hit.
