Urban Skiing help!!

Alright so my Crew haven't really hit urban before we know a lot of diffrent spots to go like hand rails, gaps, wall rides and such. What are some pointers on what to do and what not to do! Is it really hard to get one trick as the pros make it out to be?

make sure u have a spotter for cops. make sure u dont hit a aluminum rail. bring water to freeze the lip. dont be dumb and slide a 3 kink your first time, go to a mellow down rail.

When you say you know alot of spots have you thought about run-ins cos unless you have a bungee or a winch its harder to get speed than you think.

what in the hell would you do if you actually saw cops... try to run away in ski boots with skis in hand and all your shit or just causally stroll away and act like you were just hittin a handrail hahaha.. no you dont need a spotter and if cops do come just say sorry and tell them you will clean up and leave

Getting a shot in urban is a real pain in the ass and takes a lot of efforts. You might spend 3 hours trying the same trick, continually eating shit on the concrete, it's harsh. I wouldn't say that you need a spotter for cops, if they come just be polite and nice with them and most of the time they will let you go.

Here's a few rules that I think are important if you're going to film
1) Make sure you are going to have good lighting if you're going to film at night.
2)Make sure you don't make a too big jumps to get on the rail.
3) Unless it's really gnarly, your rail should always have some stairs, and shovel them.

Other than that be ready to put in a lot of efforts but it's worth it once you get your shot! I hope that helps a bit

Yeah i have a bungee and a drop in so speed is not an issue i have researched the spots enough.

bring lights you are going to need them if you are filming, as well as a bunge or something to get speed.

its been helpful before. a kid was a block away watching for us and the cops drove by him. we were in the back of a school parking lot, we shut off the lights and he drove by and didnt see us. obviously if your hitting it in broad daylight it wont do anything.

ya just don't make the kicker to the rail too big or right up to it cause thats cheating. Just go have fun and play safe, cops will just tell you to leave of you get caught, don't be a dick and be polite, it will be all cool

but pretty much everything else is good advice. bring a bunch of water 1. to drink 2. to use on the lip to freeze it

shovel the stairs and don't make the lip massive unless it's a flat rail or something.

When the pros say it takes hours to get a shot they are not lying. Started hitting urban this year and holy shit does it take longtime to get a trick. Took me three hours just to fs switch up an urban down-flat-down when in the park that's a trick I could do first try. Urban is more sketchy, looks better and when you land that trick it feels amazing.

Some tips:
-Since it is your first time pick a nice downrail, preferably mellow.
-Once you chose your rail, show up and bring: Water to drink, Bring food because you could be there along time. Square head shovels. If you got a big blow torch bring that to harden the lip, if it is less the 0 degrees sprinkler water or road salt for over 0 degrees.
-Setting up the rail. Never make a huge lip onto urban, it's cheating and doesn't make the shot look good. Since it is your first time though and you probably just want to get comfortable with it, make the lip a little bigger.
-Lips always go on the inside of the rail, on the stair side.
-Shovel the stairs, makes it true urban and the shot will look better.
-Flip open the camera and look for the best shot, if it's nighttime make sure you have good lighting. Floodlights are a must.

thats retarded. you do not need a spotter for cops. it will make no difference. ideally just find a rail thats not super visible from any busy roads. you will be fine.

helped me and my friends once. my friend spotted a security truck coming around the parking lot with his lights on at this private parking lot to a business. we hid in the trees since it was like midnight. he waited for 10 minutes then left for the rest of the night.

make sure to set up the camera equipment last. it keeps things more low key to people passing by. To people in a car itll look like your just shoveling some steps, but when a cameras all jacked up on a tripod it makes you stand out more. Always be nice to people that come by. A smile goes a long way.

oh yeah someone said it before me, but a cop spotter is great.........

A cop spotter will be no good in your situation. You're just wasting someone's time.

I start hitting urban this year and I can tell you, the 2-3 hour to get a single shot is true. You have to drive up to the spot, set up everything and etc. It's a pain in the ass yes. But, when you get the shot, it's the best feeling in the world.

Hit something you're really confortable with in the beggining. Not something too gnarly. Take a rail with long stairs instead of one with gnarly metal stairs.

Make sure your lip is hard enough before hitting the rail. Nothing sucks more than having to rebuild your kicker every two hit because it never froze. I always do this first, then shovel the stairs and clean up everything so I don't have to wait until it freezes.

also make sure you shovel away the lip and clear any sidewalks/roads you shoveled snow onto. Don't ruin it for other people by getting the rail capped.

we did and it was still a fucking horrible idea.. sorry but the sketcher you act towards cops (i.e. he sees your "spotter" trying to run to tell you theres a cop coming), the sketcher hes gonna act towards you (i.e. take you as doing something more illegal, shooting you (hopefully), or giving you greater consequences.

not exactly, its usually because its a softer metal then steel and your edges can dig in if not slid properly. i have slid aluminum rails (not urban) and if your very careful and it doesnt have kinks you should live
