Help me choose my next lens +k

So far my setup is t3i with a 50mm 1.8 and a tamron 17-50 2.8

Obviously i need a tele lens. I'm running really low on cash but i know i need to throw down some money. What is the cheapest best lens that i should get next?

If you want a cheap tele and dont need auto focus, check out the nikon 80-200 f4. With a nikon->canon adapter, the whole setup will be about 150 bucks. it will be a push pull focus but who cares, its only 140 bucks for the lens and it looks great.

what exactly is a push pull focus? sorry i'm new to all this but i'm determined to learn! i have no problem with just manual focus, i'd actually prefer it.

It means the barrel on the lens pulls towards the camera to zoom in, instead of twisting. Its kinda annoying but it works, especially for 140 bucks. f4 is a little slow but im guessing you don't need the tele for night shots. you could go 2.8 but those are around 400.

You could go with an FD mount lens for telephoto would be way cheap

Not a terrible lens. 75-300 is a HUGE range, the optics are probably okay and the non-consistant aperture is a concern too.

also, what lens adapter would i need to buy if i went with eheaths suggestion of the nikon 80-200 f4. I searched for nikon to canon lens adapter but a good amount of ones showed up. thanks guys

the aperture changes as you zoom. for video especially this sucks because the exposure changes if you zoom. but for photography too, the lens isnt as fast if you zoom in. basically overall bad

when it says AF chip, you would still have to focus manually but the light in the viewfinder turns on when its in focus

can you spell this out a little more. it makes some sense but if it a manual lense would the aperature still change when you zoom?

yes, because at the long end of the zoom range the maximum aperture is smaller than at the short end. so it will close down as you zoom in

I have come to learn in my life that variable aperture alone doesn't make a lens horrible. The fs100 kit lens is 3.5-6.3 but its a very nice piece of glass and is 900 to buy it alone. But, the 75-300. 18-135 and 18-55 lenses by canon have much more wrong with them than variable aperture. What happens is that when someone makes a good zoom lens, its almost required for them to make it fixed aperture to make it appeal to the consumer, when in reality, a lens can have the qualities of a canon 70-200 but just have variable aperture. This is very rare, but in panasonic G lenses and sony alpha/emount lenses, this is the case.
