i recently traded for some 189 hellbents, 09 i believe. im 6ft and im not worried lengthwise but i was wondering if i should trade for something else? still want a fat, rockered and fun ski to play around on
Well why not try them out and see. If you dont get on with them demo some other things and buy some nice new skis and sell the bents. Not sure what else your after really, bents are great but only you will know if they suit you or not.
im gunna sell my 08 179s this year. their really good at landing switch in pow...but thats been about the only thing ive found to be really good about them. Theyre really heavy, and way too soft for my style. Their good at charging through dry fresh snow, but not all that great in the wetter kind of stuff we get here normally in the PNW. They wheelie out of landings a ton too. Im probably either gunna switch to a benchetler or praxis mountain jibs next year, but im not sure yet. Dont get me wrong there good skis, their really fun, but they just lack a bit in terms of true performance.
keep them and ride them, if you hate them then trade them off. The length of the 189 negates the wheelie issues people find in the shorter models. If you want a soft powder ski and you are strong enough to handle the weight then you will like them. They are fun to drop cliffs on and play around the mountain. I enjoyed my 189's.
Hellbents are the shit, period. Honestly keep them, mount them dead center, and you'll have so much fun. Imo though hellbents can be too much for a smaller rider though. They do weigh a good amount, but if your a solid dude, and can handle a ski like that you'll be all smiles when riding on them. Plus you have one of the older models with the 122 underfoot which imo is better then the newer models. I have the 10-11, which were the last year of the smaller underfoot and those skies are being sold or traded.... ever
