so i left this comment on snoqualmies park facebook page about the halfpipe and how its a waste of space and we should get rid of it and fill it in with something else. read below and if you agree you should go to their facebook page and like it and leave a comment about whatever and see if we can change this if you all agree with it. My name is Sam Carson so you will know what comment it is.



just wondering why we cant build a halfpipe in a LA NINA year with tons of snow in the middle of winter while Mt. HOOD can build 3 in the middle of summer and now they are adding another with not so much snow. just wondering cause our halfpipe is a waste of space cause we havent built one in quite a few years, so you should get rid of the dirt mold and sell the halpipe equipment and get new jibs/ make new jibs.

please read this cause we could have such a better park with the space that pipe takes up, and also if you guys did build a halfpipe this year, nobody would know how to use it cause nobody knows how to ride a pipe and do anything in it so it would be a waste of time to make it. I'm sure those pipe cutters or whatever they are called and whatever else you need to create a pipe could go towards alot of jibs and other stuff and maybe increase your pay wage for working on park crew. =)

Actually, one could argue that everyone picking up and throwing the rocks out of the park at Snoqualmie strengthens the community through communal volunteer work.

Hahahahaha, good call.

A couple issues that I could forsee:

-Last year, Snoqualmie got wreckaged on temps. Remember that blowing snow for a pipe is hard, and if it's super mushy all the time, it's even harder to move. Tough on cats, and difficult to get it to pack consistently and not sludge out.
-Moving all that dirt work would be a decent dozer project, as well as moving the pipe lights and sound system. I doubt they're interested in changing that up.
-A pipe is a big investment. Water/electricity for snowmaking, cat time/gas/payroll for building it, maintaining the pipe cutter and pipe afterwards. If they were short on cash, it probably got nixed to save money.

true that. but there is no way snoqualmie is short on cash flow. those fools are straight taxin. heard from a reliable source that just from season pass sales alone, they can pay for operations and employees. the rest goes right back in their pockets.

Part of the problem with the pipe at snoqualmie is location, IMO.   If they had it in the upper park, or at West it would be easier to build and maintain.   Plus as is it's orientation creates a "bad wall" with one facing into the sun and one getting shade.   Just my opinion.

I like riding pipe when it's available, but to me, it won't make or break my experience.   Granted I don't ride much park as it is.

If I had to take a guess, I would guess that a decision will be made regarding the pipe this year, if not already.   Keep voicing your opinion in a constructive way, let the area know what the riders want.  Personally, I'd rather see the money and time spent elsewhere considering we haven't had a pipe for several years.

I have voiced my opinion in a more direct way, and will likely do so again.   However, don't get me wrong, making your voices heard is a good thing and FB is solid medium to do so.

i fully agree with you, the pipe is never constructed due to lack of snow/funds, or whatever the cause may be. all in all getting rid of the pipe foundations and equipment would make alot more space for jibs and other features like you said. the problem is, this cannot be done in just one off season, sure they could probably sell the equipment to pay for the moving of dirt and additional features, but that alone would take quite a while. after a resort has bought all the equipment, the relocation and moving of dirt and rocks will take a very long time too, assuming the workers are not too productive about it. If everything goes smoothly, it is possible for this all to happen in one summer, but certainly not this summer, since it is already late july/august. I'm gonna like the page on facebook and hope this happens sometime in the near future.

Quit whining and fix this problem yourself
1. Go to indian reservation and knock on random doors
2. Purchase Dynamite
3. Blow up pipe foundations
4. ???
5. Profit

Snoqualmie will get a bunch of publicity, media will probably turn it into some kind of terrorism case. Then they will have to get rid of the leftover rubble and dirt and sell the pipe dragon. Leftover money goes to new jibs.

This could be done with a day off and 100 bucks~

well what if they kept the dirt there and didt transport it out. instead they would just make it into dirt molds for jumps or lips for jibs or something but i dont know. i feel like there is alot they could do but they just wont.

Yes, because the dirt would be contaminated by the nitroglycerin and have to be removed to the hanford nuclear site for safe storage~

Snoqualmie, even in good snow years, is pretty incompetent with their pipe, except for maybe some snowboard shoot. In essence, it is shit.

However, they will not get rid of it. Why? It is the only superpipe (well... potential superpipe) in the state. That is a big issue for PR. Also, they invested a shitton. Dirt work, light towers, sound, snowmaking, and zaugg. of course, they cannot utilize them so it blows.

Just accept it that Snoqualmie will always be the slow kid... albeit with a lot of boxes.

I hear you there, but the difference between money coming in and money being reinvested into budgets for operations is key.

One of the hardest things to justify in a concrete manner is the usage, appreciation, and money that a terrain park brings to a ski hill. When you can't hit people that live by numbers with solid numbers from the park, it's hard to justify even the smallest increases. Snoqualmie might be able to get some idea based on the number of park passes they sell (and then get scanned), but that's still not totally accurate. Hopefully we'll see Stevens integrating RFID into the park. I think we'd be one of the first in the nation to track that.

You wanted help, so I thought I would re-write this in a way that does not make you look like a 14 year old girl who only pretends to care and is suffering from daddy issues. I even gave it a catchy title! I am assuming you would rather the pipe be nixed rather then properly maintained.

Switch Up the Half Pipe!
The super pipe area in the Central terrain park is currently a waist of space and money. Building the pipe require both good snow conditions as well as large amounts of man hours, man hours that could be spent installing and maintaining jumps or the creative jib features Snoqualmie is known for. The last few years has seen the super pipe neglected or not even built. The area it takes up would could be used to add a medium or large jump line, or a dozen unique jib options. These jibs could be built using money acquired from selling the pipe (dragon or zaugg).
Opening up the area currently taken up by the (often closed) super pipe would help spread out skiers and snowboarder that can crowd the current park on busy weekends.
With some bulldozer work, the dirt currently used for the pipe could be transformed in to jump platforms, to help the park out in those low snow years.
Transforming the current super pipe area into more rails, boxes, and jumps would result in a more enjoyable park, and help attract additional riders to Snoqualmie.

Yeah we may not have a lot of people  that know how to ride one but even if we where to keep it or shorten it a bit and the crew actually groom it I have been wanting to spend some time in the half pipe. Im sure others would too.

I really was hoping to one day be able to ride that pipe, since I haven't been in one since '03.  That being said, if the pipe will never be put back up, I would much rather have a third jump line.   It would help alleviate some of the congestion we see on weekends.  I'm not a fan of waiting ten minutes to drop in on a small three set just to do some small tricks.

That would require hard work, something pretty foreign to snoqualmie's park crew.

Don't get your hopes up boys and girls, unless you enjoy having them dropped off a cliff and then crushed by a huge boulder. My guess is you might get an extra feature or two, but the crew has enough trouble maintaining the current feature set in the short and few breaks they get between their scheduled safety meetings, and doing nothing.

Honestly they put a lot of unions to shame when it come to getting paid to not get shit done.

An even greater argument/community effort would be to get the entire park moved back to west off pc.  Perfect slope the entire way down, lights and much less crowded on any given day.  theyd be able to have multiple jump lines easily up to 5 jumps and tons of room for jibs the entire way down. 


 central is honestly the worst location for the park.  Itd even be better to have all the jibs set up on that run skiers right of the quad.  and i dont think theres ever a chance they get rid of the pipe.  that would give stevens a relatively large "advantage" by being the only mtn in wa w/ a pipe.  besides they have way to much invested into its current location.
