So I have been on Newchoolers for 4 years but I just made an account the other day. I steadily increased my karma over a couple days to almost 500 and then I made an FD thread(i know first mistake) with all positive vibes and its is slowly eating my karma haha. I knew it could go one way or the other, I just underestimated the FD haters. I was pissed when I first saw my karma rape but now I am just laughing over being pissed about karma. WHICH BRINGS ME TO THIS THOUGHT. What if you could see who took your karma?! You guys would never do it because it would be a ridiculous nuthouse, but just imagine if you were skiing by a couple kids and you heard them arguing over karma rape. Hilarious. Now that its typed in front of me it doesn't sounds as funny, but I would like your opinion on the consequences of revealing the karma formula.
While the working's of karma are quite a mystery to most, you're drop in karma was likely not attributed to member generated karma feedback.
You only have 4 members who have rated your karma. One gave you a 10, one gave you an 8, and two gave you a 0. I doubt 2 zeros is enough to truly bring your karma to it's knees. (Unless of course they are VERY well endowed zeros, :P)
Mods will only delete individual karma rankings that we deem unfair or done maliciously. The karma forum is simply an alogorithym that takes into an account a variety of factors. While it's intentions are to indicate and reward good members, it is not an end-all-be-all of Newschoolers stature. Good members can easily still have a lower karma ranking.
Just continue to contribute positively and don't be too concerned over your karma rating.
what would be cool along with rating out of 10 would be a graph showing the distribution of where your ratings lie. something like this (from imdb, bonus marks if you can guess the movie):
it would be a neat novelty to have. (i'm guessing mine looks something like that, but much fewer ratings)
How come a member cant see their own karma ratings? I think it would be very interesting to see. And can mods know who in particular gave op a 10, 8 or 0?
Mods know who gave who what rating. However, we feel that in the best interest of the karma system, that members should no be able to see what individuals rated them. We feel that it would create too much negative drama if everyone could see what someone rated them.
some people take the "be a quality member and post quality content" road for karmic gain, i prefer the "pretend to be drunk and try to strecth one almost coherent though into as many posts as possible to milk the post count for all it's worth"....route
