Kinda dumb in my opinion. They way they spoke with a pain in the ass and Adrien Brody was not very good as a retard.

I want to see it, the trailor looks good. But I have heard people say it isnt very good... I'll take your opinions though, skiers always know what is right! hah

I thought it was pretty good. The concept was great. I think people really didn't like it because they went in expecting a horror movie; rightfully so seeing that's what it was advertised as. Well it's not a horror movie. I thought is was fairly slow for the first hour, but the end was enough to make it worthwhile.

So basically the movie is set in the 1800s... right. The village has a truce with the 'creatures' that live in the surrounding woods. The slow-moving intro has a few minutes of tense moments when the creatures come into the village one night and paint red marks on the doors. The movie is really a love story focused on Ivy (a blind girl) and Lucious (the strong, quiet type). After they announce that they plan to marry, a jealous, retarded Adrien Brody (sorry can't remember the charater's name) stabs Lucious. Needing antibiotics for Lucious, Ivy volunteers to go through the woods to the towns to get medicine. After travelling through the woods for awhile, her escorts desert her and she is left alone. It's here in a cut scene that we learn that the 'creatures' are merely costumes that the elders of the village put on to keep the community together and from venturing off. After being attacked by a creature-disguised Adrien Brody and killing him, Ivy makes it to the hidden road and climbs over a fence. We then see that it is really present day times and the village is located in the Walker nature preserve. A kind park ranger helps Ivy get the medicine and get back into the preserve. Cut scenes and commentary back in the village shows the mayor (last name: Walker) and some lady looking at newspaper articles inside a black box. Turns out the elders of the town all had lost loved ones from violence in the city. Thus Walker, former University of Pennsylvania prof, created the preserve and village to resemble 1800s living and create a crime-free environment. End of story. So yah. That's the big secret. It was beautifully directed, but the script wasn't very good.

lizziebeth, thanks for the warning, i would have totaly read that and I wana see it to see how hilarious the monsters are.

the script seems to be a pretty clever political commentary. the elders manipulate the fears of the townspeople with fake enemies using a color coded system. not sure if that was what he was aiming for, but it works.

Yeah the movie was really good. I thought it was genious how they hyped it be a scary movie then just went a total different direction.
