Looks like as my training comes to an end here in the Air Force, and as I prepare to take my journey into the operational active military I have received my first copy of official orders. Found out that I will be sent to Spangdahlem Air Base located in Germany. I will be assigned to the 52nd Civil Engineering SQD. To which is a Red Horse squadron....MEANING THAT I will spend 6 months in Spangdahlem, then 6 months deployed to Durkadurkastan. Six on and six off for 2 years. Then after that who knows where to! So stoked to be able to do this and finally get deployed! I can't wait. Will be finishing up my technical training here at Sheppard AFB in roughly two weeks and then it's home for a month!
Speaking of Germany, does anyone know of any dope places to ski in the central western area of the country? thanks.
Thank you all for the support, and I love doing my part so that you all can ski safe! But to clarify some things up that people have asked. I AM NOT A PILOT. I will be stationed at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany, meaning that Germany will be my home for the next two years. Anyone can know that information. People know there is a base there so no worries. As for when I get deployed, when I said Durkadurkastan (I'm sorry if I offended anyone with that) I use it in the context of being sent to most common deployment areas such as Afghanistan. Now if I were to tell you where exactly I will be then yes I can get in trouble for that. So no worries, I'm safe there.
Another thing to clear up. I am enlisted for 6 years sewing on A1C (Airman 1st Class) when I graduate from tech school. I am currently finishing up my course in Electrical Power Production. My job is to maintain and keep all the generators on a base running at full power. Either it be at a base or a deployed location. When deployed we don't depend on commercial power, all our power is supplied by huge ass generators that put out 750kw, 4160 volts. We have roughly 20 of them on a deployed base all hooked together that we call a "power plant" and another one for size reference. There are also smaller generators that we work on as well, but these are the largest.
And another major thing that we work on and maintain are the Aircraft arresting systems. In easy terms it's a cable that runs across the runway and stops planes in case their brakes fail. These arresting systems can stop a 40,000lbs aircraft traveling at roughly 180knots within 1,200ft. So mostly only fighter jets. Here is a test of the system with an f-16 taking the cable. It's not like a Navy ship where it stops you in a quick distance. It's designed to pull out all the way and have a slow easy stop to prevent damage to the plane and pilot.
Well that's all for now, if you guys have anymore questions feel free to ask away. And again thanks for the support! Have an awesome Air Force day!
