Help Videoing my cousins wedding

Alright so my cousins getting married in like a week and as a favor to them I'm gonna videotape their wedding.
I'm not really good at composing my videos, I've been a photographer for most of my life but I've never really gotten into videos

so i'm pretty much just asking for tips on what to do, I'd like it to be kinda artsy and have a nice happy feel to it, I'd also like to do a time lapse of the rehearsal dinner but I'm not sure how to do that.
I have(or can get) all the software for editing and a computer capable of processing it

I'm going to say this right now.

A wedding is one of those vidoes that needs to be perfect. The audio has to be spot on(something way above my head), and as a photog, you might not be ready to put together the movie that they will want to remember the wedding from.

That being said.

Make sure your footage is always stabilized. If you're a photographer, it would not be surprising to hear you're going to be using a HDSLR. This makes stabilized footage especially important.

Audio should be one of the key parts to the wedding. This is a bit out of my relm, but I would imagine this would need a lav mic on the bride or groom during the ceremony with another shotgun mic recording it as well.

Bring plenty of batteries and memory cards.


I would personally find a wedding to be one of the scariest things possible to film. The important parts happen just once, and if you miss them, you miss them. I would be terrified to do one of these ceremonies, but I wish you the best of luck with it.

yea they have a wedding photographer and everything, I'm not sure why they asked me to do this but whatever i suppose it's the least I can do for them

Watch a bunch of wedding vids. Figure out what the key moments are going to be, write them down, and then show up early to figure out where the best shot will be.

Where's the thread with the dude that made the NS account to share his epic wedding videos? Those were great, and I don't remember any sound. He certainly didn't mic the bride and groom for the ceremony.

Someone should dig up that thread, I can't find it.

holy shit that's awesome, now my standards are gonna be so high and I'm gonna end up hating what I've done

I probably should have mentioned this earlier, I'm not shooting on an HDDSLR I have 2 HD camcorders at my disposal and that's about it
