Loopholes out of SUNY Mealplan freshman year?

Hey, been a while since I posted a thread, but I seek the advice of savvy, sly college kids. Ns is full of that. I'm going to be a freshman at SUNY Plattsburgh in the fall, and I'm basically poor as shit. Im looking for ways to cut back serious amounts off my total cost, leaving me with zero debts. I'm not at all going to go into my actual numbers, and I'm not looking for suggestions outside of the toipic, but does anyone have any ideas as far as escaping the mandated requirement of the freshman meal plan? If I can get out of it, I can save $4000 first year.
And anyway, the people that run the dining halls here, Chartwells, are a PRIVATE ENTERPRISE. For the college (state run, state funded) to require me to submit to the pricing schedule of a third party is dictionary definition extortion. Not to mention, $2000 for a fifteen week semester? I can feed myself off $10 a week, probably less here, because this town is dumpster heaven. //rant
So without deuling me on the why's, anyone have suggestions? Thanks so much!

i went to a different school obviously and i never tried it myself (should have though) but i had friends who got to opt out of housing and meal plans by writing a letter explaining that because of their religion or whatever they can't live there/eat there. so i'd say just do some research and find out if anything is mentioned about exemptions (and if not, find a good higher up person to ask) and write a damn good letter with an excuse that is hard/uncomfortable to challenge

at my school, you can cancel your meal plan during the semester and get a certain percentage back, you can try that if all else fails I guess. maybe call the school and say you have a very strict diet and need to pull the meal plan for financial reasons. also kinda random for ski gabber haha

good ideas, all round. Thanks mods that moved this for me!
The religion card seems most solid. But I imagine they would try to accomadate kosher/halal, whats a really obscure religious diet that is basically unfuckable?
