Thing is though there is rarely a day of full sun, so is it worth having a lense such as fire irid? Thats why I think it would be better to have an all purpose and a flat light lense.

hi yellow and emerald irid. That's what I have and love the combo. Could probably get by with just an emerald or blue iridium if you wanted though. I find pink is painful in really bright conditions so I traded mine away

But when the sun finally comes out and your in HI yellow, the sun tends to burn the eyes out, you don't find emerald hard at the end of the day w/ shadows etc?

I generally only use my yellow when there is a very low chance that the sun will come out. Emerald hasn't really given me any problems with flat light other than on totally whiteout days when I'm wishing I brought my yellow. There might be some better all around lenses but I love my emerald. Plus I think it looks money. As much as everyone likes to deny it, it matters what it looks like when it takes up half your face.
