How wide are your skis? Might need the cord if your skis are wider than 125mm. I have to jimmy my bacons in a little to get them in.

I havent got ski's right now, wont be getting any wider than 110mm. The bacons are 115mm right? Helps you out them being snug in there.

It wont fall out the bottom, because the binding is caught by the strap.

i really hate both, because diagonal carry sucks. Your skis end up sagging, and banging the ground and your calves
so now i just jerry-rig a frame carry on my current dakine pack

imo, steer clear of diagonal carry

Honey Badger, This i know, but because of the non ajustable strap. A quick lift of the skis, if the top strap isnt super tight. The bottom loop could give some slack which maybe could cause the bindings to go through the strap and fall. The Cable one i cant see this happening with as you can tighten it.

you can make it work if you adjust them often, and not have your pack under/over loaded
and on most packs you can ghetto rig an a-frame if you need to

but, yea, for the money dakine is pretty darn good, some of the new heli pros are pretty good looking as well

I dunno....I have last years ep dlx and never had a prob with diagonal carry...I'm tall though so maybe that's why but I've never had the skis hit my calf....I'd say if ya can get the dlx....best pack I've owned yet....but maybe I'm jus lucky?

I have had a couple of dakine packs and imo they aren't good for skiing. Spend a little more and look at Osprey, Bdel, or mystery ranch.

Agreed. Dakines are pretty poor bags to carry loaded up and the ski carry sucks balls. Looks for something else, go to your shop.

Been to every ski, snow, mountain, mall, outlet and specialised pack stores to no avail. None have their winter range out on the shop floor. All say they get their winter stuff in October.....I leave for hood in 5 weeks. I need a bag soonish. WIth the warranty given, the Heli cant be that much of a bad choice. I've ruled out the Re-gen for not having a Camera/Doobie pocket on the strap pocket and the risk of it maybe looking abit tacky. Lots more Heli Pro's dotted over the internet, some of them closer to $60. No bag can compete with that right now.

Yeah dude you'll be psyched with the dlx and if there's a problem dakine has impeccable customer service....they want to make ya happy and are very interested in your feedback....but when ya get it here's a word of advice....this goes for any bag with a belly strap....do not...I repeat do not get on the lift without that belly strap buckled....I damn near killed myself that way out at solitude....lol....went to get off the lift but one of those buckles was caught on the chair and I went for a friggin ride homie....not sure if you've ever done the chair to the top at solitude in Utah but the unloading station sits on like a 30' cliff....yeah they stopped the lift with me danglin over that bein held by jus the belly strap....lmao....scary as hell....says somethin about the quality of the bag though to hold all that weight by one strap....haha.....so once you get it keep it all buckled when ya get on a lift....I have mine adjusted to exactly where I need it and then went so far as to tape up all the excess length on the straps which I would also recommend.

Exact same story as me. Plus when I hike I'm typically leaning forward a bit because I'm going uphill and also to counteract the extra weight on my back so in doing so the tails of my skis are then away from my body so I feel like this may also be why I'm not getting hit in the calves.

Yeah now I had a vertical carry pack a few years ago and that only caused the skis to hit my calves occasionally...not even enough to be an issue....and I mostly noticed it only happened when the shoulder straps were loose and the bag was sagging.....if ya wear the pack like your supposed to and not like some ghetto fabulous d-bag you'll be alright....lol

You need a good bag for hood? I say get a cheap non-ski bag just now (like a Campus if you like Dakine) and then a real bag in winter.

Sounds real fucking scary, fell off a few lifts in my time. All due to my stupidity tho. Have Email Dakine regarding the comparison of some of there bags and what features this bag has over the next. Spot on customer service wise. quick prompt response.
