FKS 180's too much?

I'm waiting on my akjj's right now, and am looking into bindings, I have a good amount of experience with sth bindings, but am looking to change it up, and want something absolutely bombproof, I am 6'0" 190lbs, and will be skiing at a din of 9.5 working my way up to 11 as the season progresses. I have never worked on or astmed the 180's, and was wondering for those who have if they test out right on in the lower reaches of the din range, cause if they test out a little strong, they may be too much for me in the beginning of the season.

Peeps should ride a din they're comfy with but bro...you and I are close in size...I'm 6'1" 195lbs.... I ride a din of 11...and that's not even as high as I probably should be ridin...depends on what your doin of course too but even at 11 I had a release on a 10' drop....scared the poops outta me so this year I'm goin higher din....but anyhow....take a glance at the look pivots cause I'm pretty sure I saw a lower din model for this year and it still has that sick lookin chrome paint.

just get the 140's... unless you are a pro skier or fat/huge you really dont need an 18 din binding on a pow ski

get fks 155s if you think 180s are to intense. But if you want bombproof, don't get the fks140. They have a plastic toe piece that took me 3 weeks to explode on my NEW FKS 140s (and I'm the same size as you) it was warrantied, but I don't like to use bindings that I'm able to break.

you are on the low end of the din, but don't ride lower them below 9. if you're riding at 11 that should be just fine. Bindings work best and most consistently when you are in the middle of the din range.

You seriously ride fks but don't know that the pivots have a chrome finish not paint and don't know that fks 14 are the same or shall I say rebranded look pivot 14s.... mind blown

Do they make em in the 120 brake, or would I have to heat them up and bend them. I know i've seen threads on it either here or tgr, but i'd prefer to get the right size, cause at my shop where I have the right tools, they won't let me touch my own bindings:-(

Take em apart and bend em. Not hard.

You dont need heat or alot of tools. Just a vice, and a flat head screwdriver really.

Look in the ski maintenance thread for a how to video. I learnt from it.

Glad I could blow your mind...but at which point did I say that I ride fks'? And at which point did I say that I didn't know Rossi and look are the same binding?....so let's make some sense here k?....first that is chrome paint....second the fks is actually a rebranded look...not the other way around....I was simply asking what the lower din model name on the look pivots was because I didn't want to misquote and have some know-it-all jump all over me for not knowing the exact din....but look what happened...you did anyway....how's that for blowin your mind?.....thanks for playin.

yeah. I've mounted a pair or two. They test a little high, but all new FKS that passed by me this season were never out of "in-use" & setting the din on the heel is a huge bitch when the boot isn't in the binding.


p.s. why can't you work on your own shit in the shop you work at? How the hell else are you supposed to learn? My boss always told me it's better to fuck up your own gear than a customers. Plus if you do fuck it up you get to learn how to fix it. unless you're under 18, then you're getting screwed by liability laws.

Liability, because they know we ski higher than recommended, and they would be exposed to us passing our stuff when it shouldn't, just so we can ski. At least I think thats why, I tune all my stuff, just can't touch the bindings, just have one of my boys do it for me while I breathe down his neck, esp. When hes mounting a new pair of skis for me...lol

I'm a similar build to you and I keep breaking plastic toe-pieces (Including Jesters) despite the fact that I'm not really doing anything too gnarly. So I'm slowly replacing my whole fleet with the new FKS180's - I'll only be skiing them at 10-12 DIN but having a binding break can really ruin your weekend. Especially when you're in the middle of freakin' nowhere hitting a kicker you just spent 2 hours digging.

FKS 155's would be a win for you. I ride at 11 at 6' 173lbs and I really like how these have held up for the last 7ish years.
