An Idea to Limit Baggage Fees

I travel a lot and I'm sick of getting raped with baggage fees. I usually have two checked bags weighing less than 40lbs each. I've paid hundreds of dollars in baggage fees in the past year and a half. But you know what pisses me off is there's a beached wale standing behind me in line with one bag but combined together they weigh like 300+ lbs and it doesn't get an over weight fee. By no means am I tiny but I'm not a lard balloon either.

So I propose airlines come up with a reasonable weight for people and their bags and have people jump on the scale with their luggage, then have increments of fees for every 25lbs you go over. What do you think? I'm off to the airport in an hour and I'm going to run it by a few people..

you'd run into a lot of problems once you start charging people who weigh more extra to use the same service. most likely there would be a million lawsuits based on some sort of discrimination. especially by people who can't help being heavy since they're 6'5" or something

sounds like a good idea... except fat people are gonna sure for discrimination, and to make up for the court fees and settlements, the airlines will just jack the prices up even higher. What we really need to do it show the airlines that we dont need them. They see that we (the customer) will pay out what ever they charge us. We need to fore the airlines to lower their rates, maybe by a nation wide boycott or airline travel.

It definitely needs to have a few kinks worked out...but it just blows that they charge you for extra weight and baggage, but then they can't charge someone for extra body weight even though there's like 3 small children around someone's waist.

And every airline wouldn't have to enforce it. But the airline that did do it would end up with a lot skinnier people on the plane, less weight = less fuel = lower flight cost (I'm guessing?), hurray.

I think america should have to go to a physical every year, and then their taxes, in part, will be based upon how good certain parts of their health are that they control. the obese, smokers, etc with connected health issues would have to pay a lot.

I dont't know what kind of traveling you do, so this obviously doesn't apply across the board, but literally barring skis I WILL fit everything I am traveling with on carryon. They can find a place to put my shit once I am on board. I mean TONS of clothes, snorkel gear, etc. You name it, I will pack it. I carry on anything bitches.

even if they sue, they arent gonna win guarenteed. the same way lingerie stores dont have to hire men, if there is a logical reason why there charging extra (ie it costs them more fuel to get a heavier plane off the ground) then its not technically descrimination

Wear as much clothes as possible to reduce weight and hold baggage. My friends comin back from NZ where they are pricks about baggage weight wore their ski gear on to the plane pretty much and stuffed their jackets with everything. The extra weight in baggage price isnt really to do with the extra weight in the plane so much as to stop the baggage handlers hurting themselves lifting uber heavy bags about and onto the plane

Could you get on a plane in ski boots? Cos they weigh more than like 3 pairs of my shoes put together.



I reckon you could have a limit of like 250lbs. So if you weigh 150 you can have 100lbs of baggage, but if you way 240lbs you can only have 10lbs of baggage or pay more.
Or something like that kind of system.

I'm fully behind the airlines charging for 2 seats for obese people. I remember sitting on a plane beside a really obese guy and he took up like half my seat with his overhang. It's not fair for an average sized person to be crammed in because of an obese person can't put down the chocolate.

the airlines aren't overcharging for their services...and in a lot of high competition areas (florida/vegas etc.) they only break even on their flights.

aviation is expensive, don't be so ignorant.

I carry my life with me which for a girl, less than 80lbs of shit is impressive. I fly from job to job where I live on board a yacht. Any other time I fly, to do visa runs for example I only bring carry on.

shin bang straps velcroed to each other and thrown over a shoulder. If everyone else is going to be obnoxious on a plane, then fuck it, I am carrying on my boots and putting them in the little overhead compartment. I have even carried on a longboard before. Ski helmet? No problem. Strap it to my backpack.

You should just try flying southwest or another airline that gives you free bags... That's what I do when I am going with my skis.

this guy seriously knows whats up. PLus you don't have to wait for baggage and you don't risk losing anything important. I couldn't imagine flying to BC or something and having to rent boots because the airline lost mine

Yeah my dad was on a plane once with a person who wasn't able to buckle their seatbeat, so they made them buy the seat next to them and then got an extender-seatbelt to put on the person so they could fit.

I had a guy like this next to me going to Nz.

24 FUCKING HOURS WITH A FAT ASIAN GUY SWEATING ON ME!
I thought i was going to die. It was worth it in the end. NZ is super awesome.

I do not agree with this tho. Fat people would get very upset. So would heavy people.
How do you get fees if you bags are under 50 lbs?

How? I've been made to re-check stuff in after my hand luggage had been rifled through. They were plastic bottles. "For safety purposes, were going to need you to re-check that bag." BS

And you've made it on flight with a LongBoard?

Was always told that to carry as little as possible in your hand luggage. Fuck that shit now.

Also, whats the deal with only being allowed 100ml of medication stuff. That just for weight purposes or for safety reasons? Why 100ml, 100ml of something safer than having 200ml of nivea face wash. I mean, that extra 100ml must make it explosive? Curious. Just wish it was the same across the board.

Don't know. I think the key is walking through the joint like you own the place, and luck. I just walked through and there was never a problem. I even longboarded down this super long sloping terminal because it was like 5am and no one was there.

I flew from NY to Paris to Cairo to London then back to NY all with a money clip that had a small folded blade in it in my front pocket. And I am half Pakistani. And this was in 2003. You can't explain that.

They dont check the shit very often either. I flew with liquids (acne soap etc) in my carryons about 20 times back and forth from CT to OH seeing my girl, and they never even opened my bags. Then again, I am business like and efficient getting through security, it seems to help.

Although they got pissy over my seashells in my carryon coming back from the BVI... haha.

I've been questioned on to so many flights about my hand luggage.

You make it on with a Long Board, A fucking Long Board. I'd understand if it was a skateboard or something smaller, but really. A long board!? Where did it go? and really how can someone make it on a flight with a long board and me get questioned over bulky looking hand luggage.

Again, just wish all the airline have the same rules and standards. Doesn't make connecting flights fun at check in.

Thats unreal. I have a half Japanese roommate that, without fail, will always get picked for "random screenings." Last flight he had he got "randomly" screened, some jackass on the plane started actin' a fool and they made everyone go throguh security again. Suprise! He was once again "randomly" selcted for screening. TSA is a complete fucking joke.

I dont know man. It can't be a fluke though, I have flown too many times for my easy security passages to be chance. I mean I only flew once with my longboard, from OH to CT.

I actually was flagged as suspicious too for 5 years after 9/11 because I assume some crazy terrorist out there with the same name as me was starting shit. Every check in a red marker on my ticket... meant extra attention... haha. I had an air marshall sit next to me also. It was jokes though, he was cool, I am sure he knew I was a chilled out kid.

or you could just fly southwest. no baggage fees for your first 2 checked bags and you can pick your own seat so you don't get stuck next to shitty people if you are good about it.
-1 checked bag for clothes
-1 checked bag for skis
-backpack carryon with misc. items
-ski boots as personal carryon item
no extra charges, you can pick a seat next to a cutie or your best friend, and all your shit gets to your destination.
