First day with T3i and Sony Vegas

Shot at 1220x720, 60FPS




I messed up the aspect ratio in Vegas so the quality sucks. What ratio should I use?


Any constructive criticism is welcome

Also what's a good way of getting rid of ghosting during slo-mo? Disable re-sampling?

Yo man! So a few things.
-In vegas, make sure your project properties match your video, (File-Properties-match media settings)
-Disable resample on all clips!
-Start color grading your footage (turn on the vector scope, it shows the contrast of your footage, learn levels and 3-way color corrector)
-For slo mo I've found the best thing is to keep the project in 60p, turn your slo mo footage into 40% and render your "movie" in 23.967.
-Render in wmv, use custom settings, change frame rate to 23.967, 720x1280, adjust bit rate.

I highly, HIGHLY, suggest that you get rid of vegas as fast as possible. I encountered nothing but problems after using it for a while. It's fine at first, but after a month or so of using it you encounter so many crashes it's not even funny.

My one tip for you video is to focus on your subject better, he seemed to be out of focus too much...

I've used vegas for quite some time, and vegas pro 10 for 7 months and have had no problems with it. and a few months ago it would crash, but they put out an update and it has been fixed for a long time. I have nothing to say but good things about vegas. It has native avchd workflow, multicamediting, a nice layout, and it's very indepth once you take the time to learn it inside and out.

Used 7 until it got terrible.

Got and used 8 until it became awful.

Went to 9 until it was no longer able to render.

Then decided, "No way am I doing this again!"

Hahaha, acceptable. Well pro 10 has been practically flawless for me. And the 64 bit renders sooooo quickly...

same thing here. used vegas for 1 year and after it just crashed 90% of the time and i couldnt even render and i have a 2000$ tower computer so.....

switching to premiere cs5.5 was the best thing i ever did too

Yeah, but if it's shooting in 1220x720 does that means your video properties should match that?



For Vector scope, is it an effect? Or a plugin I have to download. I looked in Vegas and couldn't find it.

And to the guy that said it was out of focus, it was my first day using the T3i and had auto focus on...So it focused on the background instead :P

Its actually 1280x720. onces you go to the project properties there is a little button in the top right. When you hover over it it say "match media settings" once you click on it, click on a clip from your t3i and be sure to click "always use these settings for new projects" or something like that. And when you render it just be sure to render it in the same resolution, 1280x720.

What version of vegas do you have? I know some of the lower ones dont have it but I believe its under tools then scopes then vector scopes. I dont have access to my computer that has vegas so i cant tell you for sure. It will pop up in a window on the right of your video.
