for me fly fishing is on par with skiing as one of my passions. catching a big steelie with a perfect drift is almost as nice as skiing a nice powder day

although i respect fly fishing, saltwater is where it's at. there's no better feeling than gaffing a 40 lb. bass after pulling that hog up. plus on top of that, you can sell that bastard for 160 bucks. grab 30 keeper stripers and you got yourself a good day.

it really depends on what youre looking for, id say flying is much more relaxing and has a lot more to do with just bein in the wilderness

catching a 30" steelie on a fly>pulling a 30lb. anything from the ocean
sorry, but fly fishing takes so much more skill and patience than any other kind of fishing...especially deep water.



also i've fished that exact section of the Blackfoot before with my papabear.

Or get 500+ pound tuna off of Mauntauk(sp) Sell to the japenese waiting for you on the docks for PROFIT.

Or yea, striped bass give a wild fight, but i dont know. Wild catching trout in the middle of the wilderness is unreal!

montauk. ive picked up a 79" bluefin tuna off of chatham before, pulled in a 300 lb thresher shark and countless amounts of blue shark, picked up some rainbow trout in maine on the fly, done all the florida fishing (weakfish, tarpon, bonefish, sailfish, etc.) and im telling you fishing striper in 10 foot swells compares to none.

I was at this years monster shark tournament in Marthas Vineyard and some GIRL reeled in a 540 pound thrasher! so crazy, and she won last year too

hahah yeah i fished it only got like 30 blue sharks and two small makos. brutal considering i dropped money on the entrance fee and entered two calcuttas. a couple of my homies (castafari) won it a few years back before these montauk guys started killing it. gotta make that money back this week striper fishing!

Sweet viddy captured a nice ay on the river pretty well.

I'll offer some constructive critism take it for what it's worth

Intro was way to long didn't really set the stage well and added nothing but time.

bit too much fish handling for my taste, dug the underwater release shot though

Obviously eaier said than done but it'd been nice to see ya put away the bobbers and get one swinging the soft hackle , throwin a streamer,  or up top on one of those fat salmon /stone flies, or at least trying.

overall though pretty entertaining

Oh and big spence pound for pound a bonefish on the fly will smoke any species of trout including metalheads, hands down.

you can get a commercial license with a striper endorsement for like 130 bucks. probably the cheapest part about fishing. but last year my cousin and i made around 30 g's from blues, stripers, black sea bass, and one tuna we caught. of that 30, we spent 20 on a boat, motor, repairs for the thing etc. also just lures alone can cost 30 bucks and you can lose them first cast. rod and reel combos for what we do are only like 300-400 bucks but if you go out tuna or shark fishing its like 1300 bucks per combo. skill wise it would be tough. ive been fishing with my cousin every summer for the last 12 years (im 19) and worked at a bait and tackle shop for the last 5 years and just now we're starting to figure shit out and make some serious money. its more about getting into the fishing community where you can call people up and ask them where's hot and theyll tell you the truth. most of the guys that we're "friends" with are these salty ass scumbags that have been fishing the waters for decades and dont like to see young kids make more money than them.

Wow it's amazing you don't end up in the trees every time you cast from up there on that high horse. haha I love all kinds of fishing. Not rich or well located enough to be big into deep sea though. Also I need a new fly rod in the worst way, I'm about to fab one up out of bamboo just cause I need one so bad haha.

I could of stomached the claim if it at least had to do with flyfishing

kind of like going into a thread entitled for "telemarking backcountry skiers" and telling us how rad your snowboarding rail game is

I think that trollin comment went over your head unless your really comercially flyfishing for stripers tuna and sharks if thats the case

cool doesn't it affect your bottom line

understood the trolling double entendre but i do hook and line so essentially you're being a dick for the sake of being a dick. understandable i guess. if the stripers are popping topwater well do some saltwater fly fishing, which is stupid fun.

well skill wise it will take a while. especially if you start fly fishing first which i wouldnt recommend. depending on how fast you learn and how often you fish, it could take a couple of months or it could take a couple of years. and expense wise i agree with someone above. while its possible to do it cheaply, all your gear will suck. it is a very expensive thing to do. between good rods, line, flies/lures, tools to use etc. but, i love fishing, especially fly fishing so in the end i believe it will pay off

one time my uncle took me fly fishing and i fell while holding his rod, breaking it. It cost like $300 to fix it and as soon as i got it fixed i found out he bought a new one. So i guess now im taking up fly fishing

Saskatchewan. Like there's a few rivers around here, but I don't think they would work. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need shallow rivers for fly fishing? All the ones around here are at least 10 ft+ deep

I've done steelhead once, those guys put up a huge fight and I was on a 5 weight rod/line I think so it didn't work too well. But if you're anywhere in the northwest it's great.

As for the video, why is everyone using bobbers? those things are a pain in the ass to cast...

You definitely still can. You could also fish for pike/walleyes with flies, which if I'm not mistaken is quite good up there

This thread makes me want to fly fish so much. But I really don't know how to or anything. My parents hate fish and get frustrated. So no one to teach me. But catching trout looks sweet considering all the variations. I usually just fish for Largemouth Bass.

Uhhhh.... maybe if you want to buy a nice motor boat with a massive engine or go deep sea fishing.

But you can have plenty of fun with a canoe, floaty tube, waders, or even fishing from shore. A decent fishing pole+reel is maybe $70, and lures are a few dollars each.

I might be biased though, I come from minnesota, where you're never more than a mile from great fishing.
