Setting up Wi-Fi in the new house, some help.

I need to grab the tools required to set up a Wi-Fi network, but I have no experience in this subject. I know I need a modem and router, and I've heard that "modem routers" exist as well. Any tips on what to get? Speed is my top priority, and I will have a ton of wireless devices in the house.

Linksys, Netgear, and Apple setups in friends homes have been very fast in my experience, but I'm sure there are other things I should consider. Any points in the right direction would be very much appreciated.

usually ISP's (internet service provider) in the UK supply a free router, set up as they say and you're good to go! If you do have a lot of devices requiring wireless internet connection,
you should invest in a new router, ones you should go for should be rated for longer distances.

Your ISP should give you a modem when they come to install it in your house. They may give you two depending on if you have high speed phones as well as internet. Once you have the modem setup and running just plug whatever router you decide on into it. I personally have a linksys, but whatever brand/model you like best just go for it. Once everything is setup you can simply type your IP address into the address bar of any web browser to change your settings around to your liking. I'd recommend getting a router that has a USB port on it to host a printer or a hard drive that you can access from any device, although it's not completely necessary.

I've set up networks before, but I'm pretty sure my ISP won't give me a router. I guess I was unclear about that.

Any tips on a router? Or are they all pretty much the same.
