Hurr, new Macbook Pro halp!

Alright NS as the title suggests I need some help. I've been needing a new Macbook ever since my old one died in a terrible accident, and my powerbook is lacking a screen and the graphics card on my Windows pc died... I've already chosen what Mac will be the next: The 15-inch Macbook Pro base model. (they are expensive enough in the Euozone: 1700 euro = 2440 dollar (crazy prices) and I have to pay for it myself...) I think I'm gonna go for the factory SSD 120GB, I could replace the stock 500GB with an aftermarket 120GB SSD like the OCZ Vertex 3 and install an optibay for the 500GB but it seems to be such an hassle and is prone to failure. But the worst dilemma for me is the screen. I want high-res so that issue is gone but I can't pick between matte or glossy. My previous macbook pro and my powerbook had matte screens, my sister has a matte screen and I like them a lot but in the store the glossy seemed to be more vibrant, poppy colours and better contrast, the matte may be more colourcorrect and have no reflections next to a glossy it appeared washed out and not as sharp and it's also not as esthetically pleasing as the glossy glass. I know a lot of you have Macbooks, so i'm asking for some opinions, I've been reading forums for the past 7 days and haven't become much wiser. Sparknotes: Glossy or Anti-gLare screen on Macbook Pro?

You pretty much have it down. It really depends what you're using it for, though--the glossy definitely has amazing colors and HD video looks amazing, but there are definitely times when it's basically a mirror like if it's a really dark scene in a movie or something.

If you're doing graphics work of any sort I'd recommend the matte (when I'm using photoshop or sketchup or something the glare can be pretty annoying) but for just typical computer stuff the glossy is pretty nice. And the glass makes it a real good lookin computer....

basically just comes down to personal preference though

I love the glossy screen on my 15 inch mbp. I set my computer right next to a window and yes there are some glares, but you really get used to it. I'm super happy with the glossy finish. It's great for HD videos, photoshopping, etc. like stated above.

Not going to work, Dutch import taxs are brutal, especially on laptops, and Dutch customs is notorious for checking every package. I might pay even more that way, we in Europe are just a bit screwed on the prices of things like electronics and cars. And I'm still very divided on gloss/matte, My PC will be on my desk 70% of the time and the rest will be in the garden/rest of home or at uni. I PS/edit stuff maybe 5-10% of my time. Also the glass panel does seem easier to clean, and less fragile.

If you plan on using your computer for any sort of media work, the glossy screen is a horrible choice (unless you are using calibrated external monitors and know how to read scopes).

You say you had a windows laptop, is it crucial to get a mac?

I got an hp dv6t quad edition, better than a top end 15" macbook pro spec wise and half the price. For $1200 it has a 2ghz quad-core processor, 8gb ram, 2gb ddr5 video card, 1080p anti-glare screen, 750 gb hard drive, half metal case (bottom is plastic), beats audio speakers. Not quite as spiffy as a mbp but real nice laptop

Yes it is, i've been using Apple computers for as long as I can remember (it was a windows desktop btw) and it can't compare with the experience and workflow I have with a Mac, also comparing specs makes no sense since the Mac OS X is tailored to a specific kind of hardware it will run smoother, and feel way snappier then a comparable windows pc. Half metal case, vs a solid slab of aluminum that has been carved out to precision, you can guess what I want. Also really important for me is design, i'm a design nut and no windows pc comes close to the mac in terms of sleek industrial Dieter Rams inspired Design. And Beats audio is the most overrated thing to me.

I was considering also getting a MacBook pro 13" with an ssd and 8 gb ram. I kinda want the matte scEen though and you can't get it for the 13" models

Soooo true, sadly it seems like 80% of highschoolers think beats are the best thing ever.

Anyway, I would go matte. I have a 24 inch matte screen (pc not a mac, not trying to hate though) and i love it. my friend has a 24 inch glossy imac, and that thing annoys the hell out of me. it seems like no matter where you put the thing, half the screen is glare.

theres a reason i said high end headphones. never once did i say the beats were high end. They are extremely over priced. I can buy them for 100 bux for what best buy sells at 300. 100bux isnt good shit

Price aside, they are junk.

The only way to get good sound is through an audio interface into studio monitors or high-end headphones.

BAM just ordered my Macbook Pro, 15-inch base model with high res anti-glare, i just went by my sis and that truly convinced me to go for it, 1800 euros gone *cries deeply* 2600 dollars *cries some more* I also ordered the OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD,don't know if I'm gonna order an optibay yet but seeing as I will have an extra 2,5 inch 500GB HDD I probably will. Thanks everyone! Internet high-fives and +K, because I know you all love that.

The guy likes macs like many other people, get over it. As far as I know its not ruining your life.

I have a glossy screen on my macbook and I do notice a difference between gloss and matte however after using your computer for a while you don't really notice it. I think matte would be better because you would get used to it and the glare (and reflections) do get annoying with the glossy. You only really notice how good the glossy screen looks when you first start using it.

I have my MacBook Pro right now with the Anti-Glare screen, don't regret my choice at all.
Also having two hd's inside (the stock 500GB in a HDcaddy where the superdrive ones was and the OCZ Vertex 3 as bootdrive means it's fast as hell, I'm happy. It boots within 15 seconds or so.

Because we in other countries can afford to, hell I've payed around 2600 dollars for my MacBook.
Damn i should live in the U.S. or at least near it's border so i can shop with reasonable prices.
