How do u mount ski bindings?

So I have a pair of park skis and I got new boots which are smaller than my old ones, and my bindings dont adjust. I plan on leaving the toe binding(front binding) where its is and moving the heel binding (the back binding) closer to the toe binding. The problem is I dont know how far to drill for the holes and if i need to fill the old holes in. (I am not taking them to a ski shop to have them mounted because it costs $50 and I dont have that kind of money.)

Theres a video but it very hard to mont bindings unless you really know what your doing, and the chances of scewing up is high if you dont know what your doing. I'd just have a shop.

Dude it's a fine line between half assing it and totally wrecking your ski...look up some YouTube vids and such if your that dedicated but I would jus sell that 1/4oz ya just bought and get em done at a shop....without a jig or knowing depth your gonna wreck your ski.

would you rather take the chance on wrecking your skis and having to buy new ones?

go pay for the mount, or have someone pay for you... it will save you so much aggravation and hassle.

It seems like you have no idea how to mount bindings.

I recommend asking your mom what chores you can do around the house for $50, which seems expensive already...

I mounted my bindings just fine. Not that hard if you have a nice drill and measuring equipment. pm me if you have any questions.

Wrecking your ski aside....I believe your safety is at stake here as well....I can't believe that your new boot is that much bigger than your old one and you've stated that you want to leave the toe piece where it is and just move the heel....I believe that even if you are able to drill new heel holes, they won't have the neccassary integrity being that close to the old holes....your heel piece may break off at the most inopportune time and possible cause you to be injured in the process.....do not take the chance here...I would not recommend even a fresh mount without being taught how to do it let alone a remount.

Or if your insistent on not paying ask around and see if any of your friends/dads friends know how to mount.

Not sure how old you are, but im guessing you still live with your parents.

it's summer. wait till you have 50 bucks to drop & get them done right. It's easy enough to screw up with a jig, let alone not having one, never mounted any skis and having the mental handicap of being a teenager.

Don't do it. You can screw it up really bad and have to replace the whole ski. Plus you will most likely not be able to set them perfectly, which could affect releasing properly and could hurt you later on

Just put the bindings where you want them and put a punch through the holes and hammer away. It works like a charm.

Yay somebody got it...but yeah I can't imagine it would be that dramatic a size difference...if he doesn't move the toe he's gonna be drilling right on top of the old holes....I'm all for peeps learnin how do their own work but ya gotta be taught or at least watch someone do it first...could you imagine stomping a big booter at speed and losing the heelpiece?....or in the trees?....ugh...it would be ugly.

but seriously get someone to do it for you, and watch them do it, then next time you can do it yourself. theres a lot to take into consideration when mounting... fore/aft position in order to get forward pressure right, getting the heel straight and in the center, not offset to either side, drill depth, not stripping out the screws, plugging old holes so you dont ruin your core...etc. if you have a jig it helps but it still isnt hard to fuck up.

I would never want to mount without a jig and especially without the proper drill bit...incase the OP didnt know im pretty sure you will have to measure and duct tape a regular drill bit if you dont have one meant for mounting with a depth stopper thing at 9.5mm, 7.5mm, etc. depending on what skis, also may have to buy a seperate bit for the correct width.

IMO it isnt really worth the hassle to do yourself if you dont have the correct equipment, training and experience

Toooo late im mounting them myself tomorrow my dad has carpenter tools that I can use and he has the right size bits. If I fuck them up i dont care because they are 2 year old surface nine lifes that dont have a lot of life left in them, so i shall take my chances.

I would not recommend mounting you own bindings. I have done it my self, but i also have all the proper equipment. If you have a drill press, the correct bits, bit collars, taps, epoxy, a paper jig, and know what you are doing you have a CHANCE at correctly mounting your bindings.

that being said i doubt you have all the right equipment so dont even bother and just take them to a shop.

don't worry about it man, his dad has it handled.

Although in all honesty his dad is probly going to look at his set up for 2 seconds and go, "the heelpiece slides right back you dumbfuck son..."

Definitely practice mounting bindings on a 2x4 many times before you try on your skis. My first mounts were crooked and i didnt drill to the right depth

Just to say, you mention op that the heel piece does not move back. If you do not know how to adust the heel piece dont even bother trying to remount, as you may get the binding on but by the sounds of it you dont know how to set the foward pressure. Bindings are not hard to mount if you have time, and have been shown how to do it. Mounting without a jig is not that hard either, but if you dont know how to do it with a jig dont bother trying without. But as I say if you dont know how to move the heel peice in its housing, dont even bother starting.

You mount them to a work station, remove your old bindings, fill the holes with epoxy, find your mounting location (centre I guess? I don't know) get the right jig for your bindings, set it up on your skis, drill your new holes, remove jig, drill the bindings in, pop in your boot to do the forward lean adjustment, make sure your dins are properly set.


it's really not that hard.

But without a jig or correct drill bits or epoxy that all becomes much harder. Also dont just fill the old holes with epoxy use binding hole plugs and glue for a better seel.

How do you plan on checking the forward pressure on your bindings? If you dont know how to do this, you might as well just drill your booth right onto the ski, cause you wont be coming out of them either way.

I snapped the plates in my heelpieces, then my dad welded them back together.  I also had to move one of the heelpieces forward because it ripped out of the old holes. 

I took care to get a proper sized bit, and just taped it off at the deapth that the original holes were drilled at.  I also used a drill press, and epoxy for the new and old holes.

Hey, I finished the spring off with them!
