- US democrats would be called center/rightwingists in other developed countries. Calling them socialists/communists is insanely ignorant.

- Almost all the countries with good shape economies would be liberal economies in the US. (Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Netherland.. Even France)

- Guns should be regulated. Every year you're on the top of the murder/killing charts.

- US education system is absolute bullshit.

- Religion is ruining your country. Fortunately you have a closet atheist as a president, you should be thankful. Hopefully mass religion will be dead in the next 2 centuries.

- People against gay rights and universal medical coverage are plain racist, morally and socially dead. US is 50 years behind and those matters.

- If Palin runs for president next year, Republicans will again be the laughing stock of the world, which is just sad.

Seriously US, get your shit together.

ps: Yes english is not my first language. It's actually my 3rd and that's an other subject where you should activate a bit. We all know English is the world language but it wouldn't hurt you to get your brains wrapped around some an other one for a change. Chinese would be a good choice right now.

I'm pretty sure that every polital party has failed us so far.. except maybe a few presidents like Kennedy and Martin Lurther Kind Jr.. oh wait he was never a president.. nm.. should have been.. damn. It doesn't really matter if you call yourself democrat or republican because they've both done absolutely nothing for the people in office. I've given myself the title of "liberal" or "moderate" or "honestly don't care". No one keeps their promises and therefore can not be trusted, everyone is the same regardless of intention. This goes for certain religions as well.

Is it bad to be an American and love America-bashing?

Just want to reiterate the point previously made that George Washington forewarned that the formation of political parties could possibly be lethal to the US (foreshadowed current reality). The interesting thing is that the divide between parties started in the very next election.....couldn't compromise then, can't compromise now.

Grow the fuck up, no one has the essentially correct idea. There's no perfection with 300+ million people's opinions, but there's a way to find a middle ground. If so many countries in Europe can do it, with a far larger population between so many countries (I know their platforms aren't all what our 'compromise' would look like, but it's a start) then can't there be at least an attempt in the US? Stonewalling never helped anyone in the longrun.

Luckily, in the US a good portion of the population doesn't play into all the political drama that makes us all look like ass clowns. Those are the people that, even if America looks like a bunch of ignorant retards, make America the place that has some of the best hospitals, universities, and other research institutions in the world.

Sure, I'll give plenty of credit to European and other international institutions because they put forth plenty of groundbreaking discoveries, but the US can't be dismissed as that place between Canada and Mexico led by a closet-Atheist black guy populated by a bunch of inebriated rednecks. We're better than that and, withstanding our political appearance, we're more than the world police that our political agenda tends to make our population be seen as.

I'd always thought I was on the liberal side of things, but when I actually opened up and read the platforms of the conservative party's representative in the 08 election, I was almost swayed to the other side; however, their social stances (abortion, gay rights, etc) stopped me in my tracks (plus, there was Palin and that was just a smack in the face to anyone who even lived in the states, legally or illegally!). Sadly, there's no middle ground and I like the color blue more, plus my family's all democratic, so I voted for Obama. Once again, the partisanship of our political system leaves those of us open-minded enough to try either, in the gutter. Probably won't vote next time unless there's a fair enough fight on the more local side of the ballot. Think globally, act locally, if you really want to change anything.

im conservative on almost every issue, i just cannot stand most liberals, at least hardcore liberals, and liberal values in a lot of cases just seem insanely ridiculous to me.

but at the same time conservatives can piss me off. both parties are completely fucked and corrupt, and i really cant call myself a republican because id feel like an ass. and while i mostly agree with conservative values, modern day republicans seem to have very different ideas, ive been surprised at how liberal some of republicans ideas are, and how conservative some democrats values are.

That's why the partisan political system is absolute bullshit. There are a lot of overlaps, yet the belief is that both are totally separate, which is incredibly deprecating to the system in general. The problem, though, is that there are always people who need to have it their way, and no matter how many different political platforms there are, there would still be discrepancies, and thus political arguments. The never-ending problem is ignorance and lack of the ability to compromise.

Something I also liked that was stated earlier is the idea that privatizing governmental work would create more competition and faster completion of projects. We always say that there are 2 guys working and 5 guys watching on governmental infrastructure projects, but if there were private companies doing that work, projects would be finished faster, pay would be higher for workers, and the quality of work would probably be better in the end, making infrastructure that would last longer. Arguable, but entirely plausible.

(Obviously this applies to work that is done by local governments, not my contracted companies.)

And this is the platform the Republican candidates run on now, as well. With Michele Bachmann (current ex-gay advocate, roe v. wade repealing, anti-adoption, anti-single parent, anti-masturbation, anti-contraceptive, anti-immigration stance) taking 18% (last I checked) of the nominational vote behind Romney. This is more than enough evidence to brand the Republican, especially its Conservative basis, as detrimental to the US. That we are about to see an election in which the major proponents of +/- 50% of the voting population want to deny 15-20% (this includes all LGBT) Americans fundamental rights is sad, if not infuriating.

Not really European, I'm Swiss.

As much harsh I spitted over the US in my last posts, I am by no means saying Europe is perfect. Right now I pretty happy Switzerland voted against joining the European partnership a decade ago. Europe is facing a critical crisis right now with the need to bail out Greece, Ireland, Iceland and with Italy and Spain coming quickly behind. If no solution, the Euro concept will crush down in the next 2 years.

I think they should cut down a number of countries and start again with a limited group of core countries whose economies can afford such a project. Accepting so many smaller and still developing economies was a mistake.

Anyway, Switzerland is doing great and I should stop worrying about others and be happy with what I have

But this is not the subject.

It did seem like they were, but then you have to remember that DOMA is soon to be repealed under Obama, DADT already was, ENDA is supported by the Democratic party, and Obama refused to support a repeal of the repeal of Prop 8. So yes, he's partially correct in the fact that they use us for votes. The problem with his statement is that, though we are not priority, our needs are slowly being met by the democratic party.

^^The problem is that's not what (I see, may be wrong) is the majority of the US population. That's just what is represented by our media and is thus, what is broadcast across the globe--we all know any television station does their best to attract viewers to get more advertising money.

What you're saying definitely isn't representative of a very small minority, there are a lot of fallacious (good word!) dumbfucks in the US, but there are a lot of people who don't need to be part of the American global representation. What they do speaks for themselves and doesn't need worldwide media attention to bring in respect and kudos from the world audience who is paying attention. Maybe switch what media outlet you're paying attention to?

I'm gonna say this and I know, I KNOW I will piss some people off with this but I am against repealing DADT. But please, at least hear me out.

In the military, you get made fun of, for fucking EVERYTHING. You're white you get called a cracker, honkey, or any other sort of thing like a wigger. You're black, well... you know what they'll get called. Mexicans, Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans get made fun of too. Nobody's perfect; definitely no secret there are parts of the Euro that are going down the shitter. With that said, we can all learn from one another. Take for instance, California in the US: It is full of incredibly rich people, has one of the largest economies in the world, and yet, is still in/facing bankruptcy (I'm not totally up to date in facts here). The point is that their leadership hasn't been taking advantage of the incredible resources it has at their fingertips. While I don't necessarily agree with taxation all over, Santa Barbara hasn't taxed the 7 oil rigs off its shores for any of its earnings since 1959, and their real estate property taxes (on multi-million dollar homes) doesn't escalate with changing market values. Just something to think about.

Is anyone really pc in the army? I could swear I've heard the N, B, F, and C words as frequently as any other in many a testimony. From what I've heard, PC only really applies to bureaucratic processes, not socializing.
