Just ordered my first DSLR! Any pointers?

Hey guys today my dad and i ordered
a nikon D7000 body,
a nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR II
2x 16gb class 10 cards

Sopposed to come on monday, VERY stoked. anything tips or pointers i should know right of the bat? like should i actually buy a UV filter right away? Recommended cases? etc

A UV filter would be a good idea. For a couple of bucks you can protect your front element from expensive injuries. Also might be worth it to invest in some classes or books if you are new, at least that's what my wife did since she couldn't fit them in college.

online tutorials are also awesome. for video tutorials, check out the vimeo video school. and for sure use a UV filter. its amazing how many people dont and risk their lens.

A filter of some sort, and learn how to use manual settings such as ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. Good luck and have fun! DSLR filming, as I have quickly found out, is not too easy but extremely fun and can always be greatly improved.

invest in a tarmac bag. yes, they are expensive, but would you trust your several thousand dollar gear in a cheaply made bag?

don't take pictures of flowers with super shallow depth of field. It is a proven fact that if you take pictures of flowers, your photography skills will decrease.
