So I'm temporarily using a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD405 that records to mini DVD-RW. I am able to access the Video/Audio_TS files on the disk, but when I go to look at the video files all that is there are .VOB files. How or what can I use to convert these and put them into an editable format?

VLC to play them from videolan.org. VLC plays pretty much everything. It has a built in wizard that might also be able to convert but I havent used it much.
WinFF to convert them from winff.org.
Most professional quality video editing software should be able to handle it too.

So basically what your camcorder is automatically building a DVD for your basic home user that just want to easily playback on a dvd player. My suggestion would be to try and "rip" the dvd and get a avi or .mov file from it.
