Bindings - Questions and Comparisons

I don't really know too much about bindings in the first place, but know just enough to be kind of picky when it comes to actually purchasing them, so I'd like to ask anybody here that knows a thing or two for some help.

I am about 165lbs and 5'9 on a good day.
I'm a fairly aggressive skier
I ski mostly park, but obviously would like a binding that will hold up anywhere.
I'll be mounting these bindings on my 2010/11 Rossignol S5 Jibs (128-98-121) so the brakes will have to be wide enough.

Are there any bindings you would recommend off the top of your head? Whether they be bindings you would recommend to anybody or bindings you think would suit me the best, I'd like to hear your opinion.

I've heard a lot about Look PX12 bindings, are they one I should consider? If so, where is the best place to buy them?

PX-12s are the standard, they'll do you well usually. For cheap prices, check the deal a day websites, evo, porters tahoe, etc.

If you want an upgrade, look into FKS 14s. Marker Griffons would work decently well for your needs as well, and then theres always offerings from Salomon. Just go for something in the 14ish or under range, any of the high din bindings will be a waste of money and not optimal for the type of riding you're doing.

ide deadbolt 15s but i hear that alot of people break them easily so i would recommend solomon STHs i here that they hold very well and they are solid cheaper bindings.

the only reason i am not riding rossi FKS is because i cant afford them

Idk the above post. Deadbolts are rock solid, which is why they are a bit on the heavier side but make up for it durability. I have them and love them to death, Tyrolia makes good stuff. Bit pricey though along with the Rossi FKS. If price isn't an issue go with those, but if it is as said above PX12 usually can't go wrong.

well if you want durable and light go with marker griffons, they are probably the lightest binding on the market right now.. i mean they are lighter than any other at only 2.09 pounds compared to Deadbolt 412 2.65 lbs, Salomon Sth 12 at 2.24 lbs, and compared to Look PX12 Jib at 2.82 lbs... they are very good bindings IMO

Griffons aren't durable and are all plastic. They would be a decent choice if u were 120, but you should get something more durable for sure

px 12s are all metal fronts bombproof bindings but are alittle heavy look at head mojo 15s or px 12s or 15s they have them cheap on www.levelninesports.com

Good advice, haha. They r lighter because they are all plastic, and one can find better bindings for cheaper, as for some reason the griffons are one of the most expensive 12 dins out there.

i run em and sure they get scratched up but they work through anything, i like em, but i mean, bindings are bindings, between 1 and another, they cant change the ski all that much, find one you like the most, not what other like, but IMO i like markers

definitly get a metal binding instead of marker griffon or squires. I used to have the squires and they wernt durable at all so get a metal binding like the px12

They also test out like shit, thats the main reason I don't use markers, they r either too weak of a spring, or far too stron, I have to send back more maker brings every year than all of the others combined, cause they don't test out right straight out of the box

Note that it's broken down into different binding categories. Based on your weight, Rowen's recommendations above are pretty solid.

Personally, I'm a fan of the STH series.

The 16s have the perfect amount of metal to stay durable, but enough plastic that they don't kill me when hiking. If you're in the 9-16 din range, then go for that.

The STH 14 Driver is the step below that, and the Driver part refers to the forward pressure adjustment. Instead of the horrible tabs (like on the old 914s, for example), the Driver has a screw adjust, and it's way easier.

One of the main reasons they are useful are the vertical and lateral toe adjustments. When your boots get worn, they'll start to rattle around in a FKS or Deadbolt. Not an issue with the STH, but it does mean you need to keep them adjusted. And to be fair, Dukes/Jesters/Barons/Griffons all have a vertical height adjustment too (but I'm much less of a fan).
