So I was jus talking to a friend who says he's been detuning his tip/tail edges to help with doing pivioting or rotating butters....anyone else do this?
I usually start detuning my park ski two inches or so back from the contact point tip and tail. when i get new skis i will detune pretty hard underfoot at first and then never really touch it again unless i get a bunch of metal burrs, then i just clean those off with a file.
i don't think there's a sharp edge on my skis anymore. it's fun in the park cause I can just spin around on the ground and lose traction whenever i want. although you can probably do that with sharp edges, just not as easily. i can still carve too though. probably not as well as if i had sharp edges though.
Yeah my crypto edges are pretty dull and it is fun throwin a grounded 360 at speed....but I've had a few times where I hit a patch of ice while carving at speed and ate shit hard...I was kinda wondering for my all mountain setup...my one buddy has been rockin blends and we were jus booshittin and he told me he intentionally detunes his tips and tails for doin like 360 butters in the soft stuff...I thought he was nuts but maybe there's somethin to it...doubt I'll take a file to my new ski though....lol....I've only had a few times where I've caught an edge doin that and it's usually jus playin around on a flat.
