Question about the FS100

I'm looking to get an FS100 soon but would like to use my Canon lenses on it. I know Birger is making a mount that allows you to control focus and aperture from a remote, does anybody know when this is coming out ? Will there be a way in the future to control aperture through the camera itself? Are there any companies that make/will be making similar products?

You will never be able to control through the camera, the birger mount should be really nice though, they make good products. I would almost advice you to sell your canon lenses and go with nikon, but thats just me.

and why nikon? just because you like nikon glass more, or can you control nikons through the camera?

Because I think the only way you will be able to control through the camera is with a sony chip that is somehow translated to canon technology, its all different and no company will ever put the time into making it work.


And i like nikon glass better AND 95% of nikon lenses have an aperture ring and the ones that don't have a pin on the outside of the lens that adapters can manipulate and adjust the aperture manually.

I went with Nikon for my FS. Many of the lenses have an aperture ring, and there are adapters with built in aperture control rings.

yeah the tokina 11-16 mm does along with the tamron 17-50. just a better overall choice IMO eos lenses are so finicky unless they're on an eos body.

Im guessing your going to go with the Nikon glass as well now since I just suggested that to you too haha.

Canon glass will work though, and I have a Kipon mount that does work with the built in aperture. It was only $100 on ebay.

Oh and btw, I will keep telling you 10,000 different reasons why to buy this camera until you get one, haha.

I thought my HVX impressed me when I first got it 4 years ago, but my FS100 just blows my mind almost all the time. I cant stop watching the footage from it.

The Hood ARcast will be the first edit made with one :).

i recently started my own side business for video and am looking into the fs100. im used to saving and paying cash for my equipment but for the fs i would have to take iut about a $3000 dollar loan. any tips on doing that?

You should be able to do it at your bank. A 3,000 line of credit might be the way to go (pretty much the same thing as a loan).

Just be prepared to drop 7-8+ grand on a set up (I spent about 8 and already had lenses).

You wont regret it though. This camera is amazing.

such a sick camera, i really wish i could afford one. But eheath & co, the berger mount will have electric communication between the body and the lenses.

are you sure? as far as i can tell, aperture can only be controlled by the Birger remote

It should control aperture, focus and IS, thats what it does for other cameras that they've made adapters for.

yeah i know it does all that, but jamie said it would allow for electronic communication, implying aperture could be controlled through the camera. and i was asking if that was true, since i heard aperture could only be controlled through the remote, not through the camera.

Yep. I think the thing I hate the most about Canon lenses is the lack of aperture ring.
