Hey NS need some help picking a sliding deck for longboarding...

Although the deck is important a crucial part to sliding is the wheels. I would recomend otang stims or durians either purp or yellow. For a deck you might consider a Loaded Tan Tien, Dervish, or Bhangra if monies not an option. Also check out Bustin Boards for customized options. Comet FSM is one last suggestion. Hope that helps.

i dont understand that if you "have been longboarding for quite awhile" that you dont know a descent sliding board.

Did you seriously just recommend a BHANGRA for sliding? that shit is 48 inches long... and a Dervish has a camber which is pretty hard to lock your feet in on slides, although it can be done. I've heard the Rayne Nemesis is great for sliding as well as the LY Wolf Shark.

My friend has a bhangra with otang fat free and that is more fun to slide on than my rayne hustler. There are videos of people sliding on the Dancer so length does not solely effect sliding. Its a combo of a lot of things

anything thats stiffer, dropped or low to the ground will be a decent board for sliding.
wheels play a HUGE role in sliding too so make sure you get a good set of wheels

I have the loaded tan tien with yellow stims and sliding is soo easy on it. The concave locks your feet in so you can slide without slipping out. The only problem is that they are pretty expensive.

When looking for a slide deck the three things i look for are stiffness, symmetry, and length.

Flexy boards have their place in cruising, but when sliding, which also entails some speed, flex is not your friend. Think of it this way, when you slide your weighting and deweighting different parts of the board separately. To do this you need quick input from your body to the board. Flex in a deck removes input by spreading out the weight when under stress. When trying to slide a flexy deck your are: loosing some power, delaying the triggering of the slide, and increasing the variability of the slide due it flexing different under varying conditions.

symmetry is pretty obvious. Once you get good at sliding your gonna start doing 180s and end up switch. You dont want a directional board thats A: gonna ride like shit when switch causing you to fall B: not gonna want revert back to normal causing you to be stuck riding a board against its natural geometry (not fun). This means any wedging is out the question for a straight freeride board.

Length. Longer wheel base boards will slide with a skilled rider and correct technique, but not nearly as easily. Short WB have quicker turning radius making it easier to get into slides faster. You'll notice this when attempting tricks or when trying to slide on a narrow road.

These are just my guidelines/preferences. The thing about longboarding is any board can kill any aspect as long as the rider can handle it. Boards/setups are much more oriented to single aspects than many people think. Yes people say they "DH" on a loaded, but to me that's like taking ski blades in deep pow, im sure someone can do it, by why would you want to.

Defiantly agree, Indy's are the way to go for slide trucks.

The EW slide series wheels get great reviews for sliding though I havnt used them too much personally.

ews will not wear down fast.

if all you want to do is learn to slide for cheap, buy some slide wheels, get an old skate deck you have laying around in your garage, redrill the holes up on the nose and tail, remount the trucks, put the slide wheels on, and enjoy
