Lens options for a Canon Rebel xti?

So i just got a new camera an xti like i say in the heading and it has an 18-55 mm lens currently what other lenses would you fine gents and ladies recommend?

depends what you want to do with it. do you want a nice wide angle for landscape type work, or do you need a portrait lens? how about a telephoto? personally i'd suggest a tamron 17-50 non vc if you cant stand the kit lens or a telephoto if you find it lacking in the distance department.

how much money do you have to spend? and which takes priority? do you need autofocus, fast f stops or image stabilization? are you cool with using old manual lenses?

telephoto is a priority and preferably autofocus and yes manual lenses are fine

how much money? i'm currently saving for the canon 70-200 f/4 non is, which is like 600 used. you said preferably autofocus but manual is fine? so which do you want?

you wont find much better then the kit lens at that price. the brother of the kit lens is the 55-250, which also has meh image quality

you can get the 135 mm takumar for pretty cheap but its not autofocus, ive heard great things about it though
