I just saw this in chairlift diaries maybe 2012/2013 nordica skis...TJ pro model? I'm getting tired for you. Why aren't people grasping this simple concept? It's not like Salomon did a collab with a much smaller company like LINE - they are doing a collab with another huge company (Atomic). So again, why is this so hard for people to grasp?

I am Jeff Amantea, and I approve this message. (maybe not as extreme as cobra_commander put it, but JJs are just too soft, have too much side cut and have too abrupt of rocker to ski well going fast in variable snow) i dont like the JJ.

ditto. been skiing on 4frnt renegades this year and they are off the fucking hook. armada's got a good crew but their skis blow for me. maybe the bubba or another new model will be better but IMHO the construction they use skis like donkey dick and is not durable at all (i blew out the sidewall on some JJs a couple years ago within a month).

I don't remember what the Jib graphics looked like, but the ski itself (along with everything else) remains unchanged.

As for what I did see, what stood out were the Bibby Pros, PB&Js, Reagan, and Jag Shark. This year's Bibby Special (150-116-123 with flat tail) is now called The Governor. There's also more variety to outwear. Two jacket/pant lines with 15k/20k proofing (VERY nice fabric) and a half zip in 10k I believe.

In an industry like the ski industry, which is not really growing and is rather flat, companies grow by gaining market share from other brands. And the upstarts don't really have market share- they are the image drivers. So brands like Salomon & Atomic admire what companies like ON3P, Moment, etc are doing but we aren't banding together to keep them at bay. Honestly, they aren't on our competitive radar. We band together to win market share back from the Markers, the Nordicas, etc of the world.

For example, Marker has a death grip on the binding world at the moment- 54% market share, which is insane. If you own 20% of a market you are considered a serious power player. So, if the market is not growing, that means we can't grow along side everyone else and therefore need to take it from someone. So, brands come together to get that share from other industry power players, like Marker and not from brands like ON3P.

Onerdykid - God you are really a talented Pr guy for Atomic...making your brand seem accessable and and friendly. Not sarcastic. My impressions are that you are a genuine skier and a nice guy.

But I finally understand why you were so stubbornly defensive of Salomon newest touring boots the Quest series. Your employer teamed up with those guys, and developing touring style products together and their dangerous failure and multiple recalls make Atomic look bad for 50/50ing a touring product programme with them.

Next question: Why would you guys team up to make this touring product with Salomon after their disaterous failure of their initial touring product?

To be fair, at this point Salomon has improved their product....but why would anyone jump on this first generation Salomon/Atomic touring binding after witnessing the disasterous first generation touring Quest boots?

If I am correct, Salomon and Atomic have no previous experience in touring product, was an attempt to partner with Dynafit or Fristshi ever made? A partnership with these companies would have been much more beneficial....

Ha, I am far from a PR guy, just a passionate developer.

As much as Salomon is our sister company, you really couldn't find a more heated competition between 2 brands, of any relation. It can get pretty intense at times. I only defend the Quest (on certain points) because I don't like bashing anyone and believe me I am heavily critical of the Quest.

Also, there is no partnership between boot design, or R&D, or production. So, we are not part of the Quest's success or failure. Boots will remain very separate now and in the future.

As far as the binding goes, I think the powers that be realized it was better to go at it together. And as time will prove, this binding is nothing like the Quest. It will only be a positive thing.

Sorry, I didn't really address that point in my reply. In terms of production you're right, this is our first go at producing an A/T binding. In terms of usage no. Speaking for Atomic, almost every single skier over here is also a die hard touring nut. I am by far the laziest person at Atomic. Everyone owns touring gear- one of my CAD designers is a local ski running champion. Every night after work, I look at the ski run behind my apartment and you see head lamps going up the piste. The people over here can't get enough of touring. So while this may be their first crack at making a binding, there is too much personal experience helping to develop it. From market research, to personal knowledge, to athlete input... they've been working on it now for about 5 years.

And if we would have partnered with an outside competitor, it probably would have been worse for us. Licensing costs, brand identity, and other stuff would have most likely hurt the product. This way, it's our own thing and there's always something to be said for that.

Salomon and Atomic are both part of Amer Sports there hardly going to compete against each other.

I dont care if no-one from Salomon or Atomic made the binding, does it really matter? For all I care Samsung could have developed it. If its a good product its a good product, of which I have no idea. Hopefully for the ski community it will be a good one.

Also love the usual accompaniment of elitist gear talk from the usual suspects on here. What useful knowledge that is sparingly put out is always overshadowed by the massive arrogance.

Yes, most of it is, but there was a look at The Governor and Reagan to name a few. That green cactus ski at the end isn't this year's stuff as well as the ski near the mannequin.
