Nikon released a new 40mm f2.8 Micro lens today. I'm on my mobile so I'm going to keep this short. I feel like if you already have a 35mm or 50mm then this lens is pointless. I personally won't be buying one, but I'm curious to hear everyone elses thoughts on this lens and maybe people can point out any points I might be missing that will make me want to purchase this lens, or at least change my mind about it! Thanks.
Well it's DX, and you can't really compare it to the 35 or 50 because this is a micro, I don't know where you were going with that. I think for real macro shots, MF should be used but AF might be nice for people using this for other shooting conditions. This lens is also cheaper than any other micro Nikon makes.
Ya you are right about the micro part. I should've explained myself better too, sorry. I meant to say that if you already have a 50mm or a 35mm then the focal length of this lens seems pointless to me. The cheap price for a micro lens does seem good though. The 105mm seems like a better focal length for macro though so you literally don't have to have your object touching the lens which is What I feel like would happen with the 40mm. Maybe I'm wrong though.
It will give a very different perspective than a 105.
It's not a lens I would ever use, but I'm sure people who take shooting wildflowers seriously are stoked. Well, some of them. The ones on DX bodies anyways.
