how far is the commute? anything longer than 15 mins i'd recommend a pannier bag, otherwise most backpacks will be fine, i use an arc'teryx granville 16 zip which is the perfect size for me (i got it for free as corporate swag, so might not buy it if significantly more expensive)

Most tanks lacked radios, they were still using hand signals, flags, and good old hand delivered messages. There’s accounts of KV1’s literally driving right past Germans because their visibility and communication was so poor. People love to shit on the Soviets for how they handled the first stages of Barbarossa, but if 2/3 of the most advanced military on the planet went in full force you’d also get royally fucked. Not to me skin the Red Army was going through a transition period and lacked experienced leadership due to recent purges and failure of the winter war. I’ve been reading and learning about WW2 continuously since i’ve been a little kid, and I still get shocked hearing about the shit Germans did on a normal fuckin day for them. Sometimes it’s impossible to break the will of the people you’re planning on exterminating. By the time the Soviets were on the offensive they were running on straight unadulterated rage.

re: anyone getting destroyed if the nazis invaded them like that, yeah true but there were also plenty of unforced errors. they were caught flat footed and stalin himself straight up disappeared for a few days and when some gov officials came to get him back in the game, it sounds like he thought they'd shown up to shoot him but really they wanted him to start being a fucking leader again. and the nazis, esp hitler, made tons of unforced errors too
and yeah, the racial/genocide/cruelty aspect of the whole thing is just mind boggling. they stuff they did to each other is just horrid. anyone who hasn't read about it should, at least a little bit, if only to see why we can't let dictators take over
