TowRopeswhen I hunted hunted turkeys it was from a blind everytime. They are pretty smart birds and stupid at the same time. They have amazing eyesight so you have to be cautious when moving so you dont spook them. Toms (grown male turkeys) have a pecking order so they will beat the shit out of the bird you shoot after they die so make sure you run out there and retrieve the bird asap. Hens decoys work well. Id recommend a full/turkey choke for your 12 gauge if you plan on using a shotgun. Calls work, i used a mouth call but a lot of people use box calls or a friction call.

Great stuff. I was thinking of doing more running and running early season to do some scouting and maybe get lucky. If I'm able to locate some flocks then coming back and setting up a blind for my archery tag.
I've got a few ghillie suits that I'll probs use for sitting at the base of trees. When running walking and calling. Was thinking of picking up a Carlson's turkey choke as well. Love my cremators.
Also trying to get better at mouth calls. Lady hates me right now lol

Cheap Bear Legit I got on sale. It's definitely my beginner bow, I've never bow hunted before and wanted something cheap to see if I stick with it before I drop some real cash.
Never been a hunter myself but grew up in S Carolina (lot of hunting). Lot of people I know dropped them off to be processed. They wouldn’t do it themselves.

Honestly its worth it. Great hobby and gives you a great respect for nature.
Getting used to gutting fish honestly wouldn't be a bad place to start. But really cleaning animals isn't that bad. You can even wear gloves if you want to.
For larger animals you can often drop them off at a processor if you don't want to deal with it. There's definitely a big difference between breaking down a pheasant and being elbow deep in an elk lmao and I don't blame anyone that thinks it's nasty lol

I was on a shoot at the King of Bahrain's estate in Oxfordshire, and it was such a shit experience because the sky was black with birds, just took all the fun out of it. Ended up being an approximate 400 bird day between a dozen guns, but what pissed me off was that a lot of the guys just left there birds at the lodge, I brought back my two dozen to give to friends or keep myself for gamey meals, and although the birds end up getting sold it just seems like such a classless thing to do, killing an animal for the sake of it and not even respecting it enough to actually eat.

Gutting a fish is the best way to start, it's really not that visceral, considering they're typically served in a way that closely resembles the original animal, unlike steaks or chicken breasts.

I think the worse part of hunting is the sounds animals make when you don't get a perfect shot, thankfully only happened to me once. I would always feel extremely nauseous before shooting a deer so I stopped.
Messed with the idea of picking it back up again because I feel like a hypocrite eating meat while not being able to kill and animal myself. Definitely gives you more respect for what you are eating.

Did Avalanche rescue course today thru cmc. Didn’t have any deals through that. Trying to look into avy 1 in steamboat tho
