Basically it is just really really good bubble hash.
Both BHO and solventless hash are primo concentrates, and do the same process of removing the THC from the plant matter and concentrating it. Making for a much better and much much higher concentrated THC and CBD content. I live around Seattle and we have some of the best if not the best dabs in the world. I'm talking 90% straight shatter total clarity BHO. The problem with that is that it requires a very expensive purging setup that costs thousands of dollars, and it still contains a little butane. Shatter like that is really only available at select dispensaries in Seattle and costs $50-60 a gram. So most of the brown/black/golden oil or wax you get on the street or from lower end dispensaries is still going to be between 30-60 percent THC, and will still get you way more ripped than you could off of bowls, but this stuff has most likely been air, water bath, or shittily vacuum purged and contains a decent amount of butane still. Thus, dabbing regularly (which I started to do and most people do because after dabbing why go back to bowls? It's more efficient and gets you wayyyy higher) will lead to butane build up in the lungs and can lead to nasty lung infections and a hacking cough. (Trust me, I've been there.)
Solventless hash on the other hand, doesn't use butane or any other solvent to trap the trichomes and remove them from the plant material. Rather, using bubble bags and cold water it causes the trichomes to sink and filter out of the bags leaving you with only pure heads and without the nasty butane binded to it. If done correctly it can produce totally pure 70 to 80 percent THC hash, and take a fatty bong rip with a screen or sprinkle some on a J and it's just like dabbing without the nasty side effects. I got lucky and found someone who is super legit at making it and makes some primo shit, but if you can get to a dispensary most are starting to carry some type of solventless and it's generally pretty good.
BCBubbleman on Instagram is the founder of Bubble Bags and pretty much the inventor of the process, here are some pictures of his stuff.
