I'm going to be in Denver at the end of the week and have the option to go to Rocky Mountian National Park for a day or down to Garden of the Gods/Pikes Peak/springs area for a day. Which would you recommend? Or is there something else even better? I'm looking to do some fairly easy hiking with a couple of friends.


RMNP is dope albiet a lil crowded. It’s very snowy but you can still do some really nice hikes to frozen lakes, I think bear lake or dream lake or something is a pretty good one. I would go there. Garden of the Gods is small and not a lot of hiking trails except maybe in the nearby surrounding area, otherwise a road goes through all of the most interesting bits.

Garden of the Gods is a bit overated. Go to RMNP and if you want to see rocks that are red, go to Red Rocks.

I went skiing yesterday and it was so fun to ride the lift. Pucci is a fixed 3 person Riblet. So easy to take this kind of lift for granted but seriously so nice to get a bunch of laps and not have to hike at all.

Agreed. No real hate just jelly. Living in Florida the past few years has been rough, can't wait to move back out west when I graduate. That being said, I have a trip planned to shred Brighton for a week in December so I'm hyped for that.

I wanna tell my friends how dope my first time out this season was, but I dont wanna brag so I'll tell yall:

Wake up on black friday at 6am to the first major snowfall of the season. Take my new splitboard & skins and drive to the mountain, about 1 mile from my house. Meetup with a cutie coworker and start hiking, we've never skiied together. This was my first time skinning but she's a pro, I manage to keep up. Catch the sunrise halfway up, all the mountains are now covered in snow and looking like xmas. Get to the top, share snacks, and shred pow on a pretty empty mountain.

I think we both impressed eachother, she was fast as fuck and I wasn't a jerry knuckledragger. All around probably the best opening day I've ever had, hope everyone on NS is getting stoked for the season.

Yeah honestly can't complain too much, Florida has treated me well and wakeboarding/kiteboarding are rad. Couldn't argue with free college. Trying to get a winch to do some urban wakeboarding! Tallahassee got a couple inches of snow one day last year so maybe it'll happen again and I can go get some shots

Got an 11.5" Asus laptop for 120 at Best Buy on Black Friday and so far it fucking sucks, no matter the browser, website, and even with ad blocker its super slow. I mean the internet can be slow but this is slower than my roommates old Chromebook, videos take forever to work without lagging on 720p and multiple tabs being open just makes it go brain dead.

Man oh man opening day was something else, not in a great way. Nothing like skiing on beat to fuck hand me down skis in 15degree east coast ice to get your ski legs back under you. Haven’t felt that out of control while skiing since i was like 10 years old.

"Proxima Centauri b" is the closest habitable planet to us at around 4-5 light years away. This guy circles a red dwarf star, making the light on the surface of the planet more reddish causing plants pigments to be grey or something like that. In the week before I graduated Highschool, I got this incredible fuck it mentality where I felt invincible. Been friends with this girl since way back and asked her on a date for the night before I left for Canada. Told her I liked her a lot and that we should hang more next year when I'm back from travelling. Needless to say I got friendzoned pretty hard but at least I got it out there so no ragrats right? Anyways, am I screwed for doing anything with this girl in the future? She said we can still be friends and shit but I don't know how that'll work. We're both moving to the same city for Uni next year which could work but still. Anxiety and worry is not all out of my system, ty NS therapist/love guru.

I would say dont do it. Take a semester off if you need to, but without the almighty bachelors degree, finding a high paying job that doesn't ruin your body is difficult. What do you have trouble with in school? I have a lot of trouble just starting basic tasks. I got bad grades the semester before this so I took a semester off, got promoted at work and am now working and working on my executive functioning outside of work. Next semester I'll go back with a clean slate and a clearer head.

Its just the dumb busy work that I absolutely can not fucking stand which has led to my bad grades. I have to look up how to do everything on my own and then I have to spend an hour for each class on some bullshit website doing pointless homework which the teacher just takes a grade from, they don't even look at it. It just feels pointless, i'm doing fine in my math and accounting classes. I wish my professors would make it so that tests were at least 80% of the grade, I would do fine then.

left home a week ago to escape some really bad habits and really shitty friends coupled with my parents marrige imploding. boss called, said I have a reasonable spot to rent for a bit, not telling anyone and gambling that I dont fall back to where I was.

i'm not sure if i'm horrified or excited as fuck. mix of both? fuck it, I didn't get a pass so I guess i'm just stacking funds until I figure something better out. I love being an adult with absolutely no fucking idea what I'm doing.

I dropped out when I was 18.

within the 4 years I took off of school I did a lot of skiing, lived in hood for a month, worked for newschoolers, partied a lot..and worked my fair share of shitty ass jobs.

shitty jobs that made me want to go back to school. And while it was a shock to go back after so long and I struggled this semester and and probably going to be a part time student this next semester so I can work and save money and start fresh at a new school next fall, going to school, writing papers and doing presentations are a lot easier than waking up and going to a job you hate everyday. Take a semester off if you feel like it, stay motivated, take advantage of your free time that your peers don’t have.

When all your friends start graduating and you’re just kind of watching life go by you will want to kick it and gear and get your shit together. But if you’re young (I’m assuming you’re still a teenager) it won’t hurt to take a year off or even just a semester. Find yourself, figure out what you really want to do and when you’re ready, go back and kill it. Because it’s really not that hard.

This is is coming from somebody who probably won’t have a degree until they’re 27 or 28..and I really don’t regret anything I’ve done. I’ve had a lot of fun, met a ton of great people and learned a lot in the years I took off of school. You can always go back man

More than anything, you found out you've got balls and are able to put yourself out there for a girl. Lotta guys get paralyzed, stay quiet, and never make a move then the girl gets a boyf. Be glad that's not you.

As far as staying friends, it's only weird if you make it weird. She was probably clear about friendzoning, so don't always make little flirty comments that aren't reciprocated, keep it platonic and show her you're mature like that. You're going to uni so start picking up other girls in the meantime and see if she comes around to you down the road.

I know some guys who did. You're gonna get a WIDE variety of answers. A college dropout's life after college, and how successful he is, is entirely dependent on the individual or their network of connections. I know a brilliant, personable guy who dropped out of his illustration degree and works at a robotics research lab in the Bay Area now. I also know a guy who dropped out of business school because it was stressful and he couldn't focus, he now works odd jobs and life probably sucks.

Dropping out because your friend has crazy drive, creativity, passion to the point you can't waste time with a degree? Sweet. Dropping out because it's hard or your friend is overwhelmed? They're probably gonna need the crutch of having a bachelors degree because it doesn't sound like they would have a high rate of success in the real world.

A good middle ground could be dropping out to pursue a trade like plumbing, HVAC, etc... Lots of opportunity there.

Edit: Chubz' answer above is also very fair and works for alot of people. There's more than one path in this life.

If you're going to drop out of college you need to consider 2 things.

1. Why are you in college in the first place?

I've found that many people these days go to college because they believe it's what society expects of them. But that is an awful reason to go to college. College is great because it allows you to explore different academic areas that can translate to a potential future employment opportunity. But if that doesn't interest you, then it's wasted money.

And that leads me to point number 2.

2. You need to have an idea on what you're going to pursue for work.

If you drop out of college you're likely going to be very limited in employment opportunities that can provide a pathway to a career. Sure, there are exceptions to that but on the whole most people aren't able to drop out of college and become the next millionaire. You don't want to suddenly look around and realize you're approaching 30 and you're in a position where financial stability will be an unapproachable dream.

So my advice is to look at yourself and try to answer those questions. If you're at college because you believe it is what is expected of you and you have zero interest in learning about new subjects*, chances are college isn't for you. Don't saddle yourself with debt** when you are unhappy with what it will provide. But if that is your answer, then look forward 10, 15, 20 years and ask yourself where you want to be. Do you want to still be working that hourly-wage job with minimal benefits while trying to provide for a family? Or do you want to be working a job where you're bringing in good money and have benefits that would support you and your family?

I'm not saying college will always provide you with a stable future and dropping out will not, but it's a much easier pathway when you go to college.

That's my 2 cents on the subject.

*I realize many subjects in college will have zero use in your future but take the chance to explore a coding class, statistics, sciences, etc. because there is no better time to do so. I've found that I use maybe one or two things I learned in college in the business world and most of it could be self taught. I regret sticking with subjects I was comfortable with and not exploring other subject matters.

**If your parents are paying for college, you need to think long and hard if you want to drop out. Chances are, they're not going to be willing to pay for you to go 5+ years down the line. You may struggle and not enjoy it (I find it's almost impossible to not enjoy college, put yourself out there) but it's providing you with something that will open many doors at $0 cost to you. 5 years down the line that cost will be $200,000 plus salary you've forgone due to being a student.

I didn't drop out necessarily. I started off in a program that I didn't really like and switched to every denomination of business and ended up with an operations degree because it seemed to have the most opportunity. I graduated with high honors and got a job in healthcare admin right out of school. It was a great job in theory but if you follow this thread I bitched about it a lot and ended up quitting. I now will be going back to school for a second degree program in nursing/healthcare management.

Did I drop out? No, but I wasted a lot of time pursuing something that I didn't really want but didn't know it at the time. Don't get me wrong, I love school and I love learning so it wasn't a total waste, but it was largely unnecessary if that makes sense? I'm lucky that this second degree program is only a year - often people will have to go back for 2-3 years just to change their course of study That is crazy expensive and it's a long time. Honestly, if it took that long I probably wouldn't go back to school and would be stuck with this degree that I'm not really fit for and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

My advice to you is if college doesn't feel right, get out. Figure out what you want to do - if whatever something is doesn't require college, or it doesn't require your current program, then you can probably find a better path. Higher education is 100% worth it as long as you are in the "correct" program, otherwise it will waste your time and money. Take a semester off, defer your acceptance or whatever you have to do. I wouldn't give up on college/high education as a whole but it's definitely worth it to take a step back and figure out if what you are doing is right for you.
