McNocheStealing. Sent a lot of dudes home.
OregonDeadI’m at the top of Palmer RN. Looks like I’m getting fresh cords once I rest enough to ski. Hiked in my Nikes on dirt the whole way
Titus69How is it up there? Almost sent this weekend but didnt wanna alone and risk no park being there
OregonDeadGot a great ski down yesterday I didn’t ski over to the park. They were closed and grooming. Looks like you need to walk up the ramp to load Palmer at the bottom now.
It was super fun to ski. U should go.
Titus69Eh idk, just got nobody to come with and my car might break along the way
OregonDeadHow far is it for U?

Profahoben_212Holy fuck.....the entire nation is smoke. Drove from South Dakota to Reno with thick smoke literally the entire day. Looks like the damn apocalypse.

Titus69Yeah slc is real smokey, you can hardly see the mountains around the city and the salt lake, worked in Heber just passed park city the other day and was super smokey near Mt timpanogos, but its also coming from California I assume.
BigPurpleSkiSuitIt's not just the usual smog we have here?
Titus69From salt lake about 12 hours if you stop for an hour to nap and eat, if I had help splitting costs I'd be down but my friends who just went didnt want to do a weekend trip again. Were definitely sending for the spring pass this coming season, I just miss hood so much and the windells edits and my friends getting to go makes me want to so bad.
OregonDeadThere’s got to be a patch of snow closer to you so you can hike for a few turns.
Titus69No I believe its smoke blowing in from California, everyone tells me the smog is from the inversions when its colder. Could be both too though.
Z-JuiceIn the winter, the smog is due to particulate matter (PM) that comes from any sort of combustion (cars, burning wood, refineries, etc) and dust. In the summer, the smog is almost all due to ozone (it's possible PM contributes too). Ozone is formed when sunlight reacts with nitrous oxides (mainly cars) and vocs (from chemical plants, gasoline, lighter fluid, paints, etc.).
Ozone "up high" in the stratosphere is necessary to block UV rays from the sun, but it's "bad" nearby. By the way I don't know what "smog" actually means, I think people just use it as a general term to refer to any pollutant in the sky.
QuaffLost a co-worker to suicide last night. Can't say I'm very surprised he decided to end it due to the circumstances. The demons we're too much. What haunts me is that I was almost certainly the last person he ever saw/talked to.
Just days ago we were talking about him going on a road trip with his grandfather and seeing the west coast for the first time.
I beg all of you to please pleasee check up on those around you often, get a sense of how they are feeling. Suicide is the darkest, scariest way to go... Nobody deserves to suffer to that extreme.

NzeskibroI am thoroughly disappointing in my meal at the mess tonight
I thought what I was piling onto my plate was chickend fried rice with bits of pork, but one bite in I realized I stacked my plate with stuffing (like out of a roast) annnnnndddd because I have no money, My meal for the night ended up being a massive plate of stuffing and crackling.
Fuuuuuu

BigPurpleSkiSuitTheoretically if you're flying from say Oregon to Massachusetts, shouldn't you be able to just bring it with you?

DeebieSkeebieswhy not go after aluminum cans and bottles and stuff if we're gonna ban straws? Like Ive seen as many crushed tallboys/bottles littered on the floor of bars and public events as much as you see straws. I think its just a people problem really.
B.AussieWhy is american bread so sugary? And why does everything have so much sugar in it? I am dying.

OregonDeadRead all the labels on everything. It's getting easier to find healthy food but we are living with the legacy of people that did not want their bread to mold ever. Sugar is a preservative after all. Watch out for other weird stuff in processed foods too.
This time of year check for farmers markets/stands and local bakeries too.
B.AussieI'm on an eating plan at a college during the course I'm at so, unfortunately, can't buy my own stuff.
I'm pretty diligent at reading and avoiding sugar labels at home so I think I'm particularly sensitive to it. It's crazy the difference in energy levels after eating sugar-rich and not as healthy food here compared to at home.
