Luckily I got paid today but I guess I'm gonna have about $200 bucks tomorrow unless it balances out...

BigPurpleSkiSuitI dont know tons about venmo, but i know banks, if you opened an account a a new bank here in the past 90 days or so, and then tried to venmo 500 dollars in there, then spent the 500, or something like that, what can happen is the bank places a hold on the funds, leaving your available balance at negative 500. Dont trust banks, banks are ponzi schemes funded by the government, I work at one in the hopes of someday making it a more moral industry.

Titus69I hate the humidity but I miss waking up in NH to 70 degrees at 7am, not fucking 85. About to go skate for however long I can handle, SLC is so brutal, working in PC is a blessing having it be 10 degrees cooler and windy. Once my finger isn't open to infections I'll be finding water.

argyle409Venmo is owned by PayPal, but works like shit in comparison - takes like 3-5 days to transfer money to your bank.
I closed mine because some Ukrainian hacked my account and sent $278 to an account that no longer exists, CS said they couldn't do shit about it since the payment was verified (because they changed my settings + linked #).
Venmo is essentially gifting money with no protection in terms of accidental payments or any type of hacking. It also take like 3-5 days for the funds to transfer to your bank account versus paypal does it in 1 day.
TLDR; Fuck Venmo - Just Paypal Friend/Fam gift rent money
Titus69Ok, I'm praying the money i transferred will be in there when I wake up tomorrow. Still so confused by the whole thing, got venmod, transferred to roommate within minutes to pay rent, says I got the money in account next day, and suddenly getting what I got venmod taken out of my bank, just to find it sitting in venmo like I never paid my roommate. My friend said it last night "venmo is gonna duck people over one day"
argyle409I have no idea why venmo even has a customer support - they won't do shit for accidental payment or hacking of accounts, so what else would people need them for? I'd be interested in hearing the benefit venmo has over paypal - is having a public record of who you paid beneficial?
As for the bank thing, when I first setup my account and linked it to my bank, they required me to make two small transfers first less than $1 each before I could transfer larger sums of money... maybe you need to verify your account via those sums? I do recall it took me over a week to figure out how the hell to move the funds from my venmo to my bank. I wish you best of luck homie

Titus69I also got some reversal fee that was $35, and yeah it's seriously stupid that they display all your friends who venmo each other. And thanks if I dont get it in the time that they say it should, as in tomorrow, I'm gonna have to make some phone calls. Is PayPal the same but better?
argyle409eBay, Amazon, bunch of online retailers all accept paypal because its the most professional and longest standing virtual money transfer platform - it also offers both buyer/seller protection...
Paypal you can choose if you wanna freebie money like you would with venmo (personal/gift payment) where no fees are applied but if you fuck up you're outta money... but I've heard of people still getting help from CS if it's clear fuck up on your part...
Additionally there is commercial/business payment where a $0.30 + 3% fee is taken out of the payment you send, but you get the benefit that if that payment was a mistake or the person you were paying screwed you over you can file a claim with paypal an customer service will side with the buyer/sender of $$ 9 times out of 10.

- the time for transfers on venmo listed here are bullshit, it always took 2-3 business days to transfer money to my bank account via venmo. Paypal I could transfer money on Saturday and it would be there Monday, weekdays it would transfer within the next day so long as it was done before 7pm

Titus69Yeah I just realized I'm gonna be waiting a little longer, I transferred it out of venmo at like 9pm Friday so it'll probably be in by Tuesday morning I hope. I really dont wanna use it anymore, if I can PayPal a roommate I'll switch to that cause fuck venmo now.
argyle409Yea I would go paypal route - I mean the 'credentials' needed to created either one is the same, I think the only reason venmo has gotten traction was because its marketed as a fee free platform... where as the common person doesn't understand you can do the same shit with paypal if you send it as a gift aka personal payment to a friend.

argyle409I view venmo like twitter except for money so everyone can follow you and see whom you pay for sexual favors and who you buy dinner for... Maybe it's due to using paypal for over a decade that I'm bias but I don't see the advantage venmo has over paypal at all...
