the life of a lifty on the job can be pretty fuckin crazy at times. standing in 0 degree weather, fuckin with the locals, smokin up the shacks and messin with your bosses is what its all about. i know i got some pretty funny stories of me on the job but i gotta hear everyone elses.

yea man i love working as a lifty during the winter. definitely a one of a kind job, lets you live the lifestyle on the real. ride all morning, go to work at 4, couch surf at night and do it all over again. and being able to ride for free every day you have off on top of that? oh yea its makes the sub par pay worth it, CBK all day !

there nothing more funny than seeing a lifty create a whole line full of jumps and jibs right next to the lift to pass the time. then when they finally hit it for the first time, realize the features are WAY too close together and just eat it. consequently spending the rest of the day rebuilding em and spacing em out.

stuck at the top of the panoramic at winter park for a wind hold. 55-65mph wind at the top and no one could get up there and it was prob gonna be a few hours till i could get down somehow. had to shit so bad, so pulled out the ol' garbage can and let er rip. put the bag outside thinking it would stay for some reason. go to leave a few hours later, whoops guess my shit is in the wild now.

as a liftie at a lift far from the base, you really become a pro at being able to shit absolutely anywhere.

on Mtn cheif as well. one time    we had a 110 mph gust that blewn in a window... it was me and a patrolers   waiting till it calmed down enough to ski down. i was scared.. cause when that gust hit there was people on the chair...  skethcy shit. 

and i caught a kid who fell like 15 feet up.   had a mild rollback once.   the worst day was i came in late. the only time at copper. and they stuck me on the majic carpet right in the middle of it all. so  im sitting there pissed at the world and it started dumping i mean.. im from mt hood and it snow like a mother fucker there.. and it was dumping i2 inch a hour.  and this one women and her kid refused to leave the carpet. and then she asked me to get a snow cat and groom the 50 foot slope..  i told her no. and she got pissy so i took those giant shovel slides and rode it down like a snowboard to make a run for the kid... 

once at pucci at timberline. my cousin and i were quite bored so we dug a tunnel under the ramp and made  aport hole so you could yell at people and scare kids.... it was awesome.  oh and fuck Pucci. worst lift ever.

but   the art of the ninja poop...  amazing.

I can't relate to being a lifty in winter but I can in summer at the bike park. i have stood out their loading bikes onto the chairs in 100 degree days to 40 degrees and rain. Also I have been called up from time to time to help out with the injured riders. I have seen smashed up faces, broken arms, and one guy with a broken right arm and left hand finger and he was way more upset about the dent in his front fork on his bike. My friends say I should try being one in winter. Not my thing. I would rather ski.

Had a kid fall 30-40 feet out of a chair this past winter, and somehow ended up being completely fine later (that would have been at least a femur if it were me). Got stuck up top during a wind hold for 5 hours with 70-80mph gusts ripping at the shack. Several epic unloading fails... my favorite being when a guy went to pull his pole out from under his leg, got the basket stuck in the chair, ended up off the chair straddling his pole, and eventually fell off the side and right onto the stop gate. I walked up and asked if he was ok and he said "I must be the biggest dumb@$$ you've ever seen", to which I had to reply "I mean, I wasn't gonna say it but....". Some middle aged lady getting mad at me on a day when 2 feet fell overnight that "there are no groomed runs! this is unacceptable!"

Job sucked at times, but there were enough hilarious moments to make up for it. Also being able to ski every good resort in Utah for free or at a deep discount was so sick.

one time i was on the park chair, and at the top of the lift, just as I am about to get off, my tall t gets stuck on the chair. so i give the lifty a solid yell to stop the chair so I can untangle my shirt, but the dude is passed the fuck out. Sine the chair isnt a detachable chair, i get whipped around and my tall t gets ripped. It made me look like a complete idiot.

I dont wear tall t's anymore.

This^ I got stuck at the bottom of Pucci on christmas eve this year. Some kids brought me some fries from the B.I.G. but still Fuck you Pucci.

Floodo is where its at, and watching Tony make snow sculptures makes the day go quick.

one time me and my friends were getting on the lift and my brother pulled out a black and mild and tried to light it but the wind was too strong so he just held it till we got on the lift. when we got on the lift the lifty was a lady and she looked at us and said you guys have fun because she thought it was filled with bud hahaha.

This one time I watched a lifty drop the rope for me at 8 am and close me off at 4 pm on a ridiculous pow day. He promptly told me he hated his life every time I came through for a lap.

another time at the bottom of black jack at copper.. i was smoking some bowls with some randoms and out of nowhere a Patrolmen popped out and i ran towards the lift shack blew my hit into it and slammed the door.. but by that time the patrolmen had got himself on already.

oh .. and once i watched this girls leg spin around 180 at the knee and fuck it all up cause she kept her tips down.

and on palmer bottom this snowblader came in and he was carrring his blades and was looking pale and out of it.. so i go hey man. what up?. he walks towards me and i notice a small amount of blood coming from is beanie running down. his face... so he goes... i think i hit my head... and takes off his beanie..and i shit you not.. a flap of scalp 4 in across flapped up and i saw skull. a blood started pouring out... and then he fainted... pretty scary shit but he was alright later/

i have many more... just trying to remember them.

lol once this lifty was adding some rope to the lift lines and my friend was like ''high five!'' and did the classic Move Hand Just Before Contact To Swiftly Avoid Succesful High Five and the lifty just freaked the fuck out like ''DUDE I'm a person too okay you can't just play around with me, i have FEELINGS TOO it's not because I'm a lifty that I'm a robot!'' etc

Saw a lifty friend of mine at Dunkin Donuts the other day, we were stoked as fuck to see each other. All the liftys at my hill who run the park lift are chill as fuck hope everyone else has lifty friends

it depends on what ski area you're working for. i love it. i've skied the best runs of my life before the lifts were even open. i've gotten first tracks under the lift then jumped back on the chair while a packed maze waits for the lift to open to the public. i've skied down to the midstation completely blind from overhead face shots in pitch darkness.

one of the funnest days ever was when the mountain didn't open due to rain and shitty conditions so everybody went back inside the employee dorm and started drinking. then the cook downstairs made a ton of food and we all watched the goonies.
