Im going to be getting a new pair of ski for the next season.. Mainly for park and I narrowed my choices down to the punx and the afterbang. The 164 punx and 166 afterbang. Now I had a pair of afterbangs when they first came out..155. They got destroyed..heavily waterlogged. They fell in a river in febuary and still have not got them back. Now I turn to you to ask which one I should get? Also that can go on the groomers a little bit. Thanks, +k for help
well they're two completely different skis. i've owned the afterbangs and i didn't particularly like them. they were kinda heavy, and too soft for my taste. i've never ridden the punx, but i've never heard anything negative about them, and they're definitely stiffer than the afterbangs. so if you're looking for a really buttery ski then go for the afterbang, but if you're looking for something to hit any jump bigger than 25 feet, get the punx. and on groomers, the afterbang was fine for me.
ive owned punx but no abangs but ive flexed abangs and id say the punx are just as soft, but feel like only half the weight. its crazy how light the punx are. i love how responsive snappy and poppy they are. i feel no swingweight when skiing them. the downside i have with my punx is that the edges crack very fast. id say after 1 day intenser rail skiing oyu should have some cracks. but so far no edge has pulled out (after about 25 days). the best park ski ive owned so far. carving is super fun on them too, but for a guy over 170 lb they will be too soft for larger kicker (+50 ft)
I have the 166 Afterbangs. They are really stable, really good for both switch and normal, fun to use on jumps, grip really good on rails and are very playfull.
But they are way to heavy and they suck at groomers and trees. And, they handle bigger jumps that 25 feet! I've used them at 50 footers, and they handles just fine, they don't wash out or anything.
They aren't the best on big jumps, but they work well at anything up to 50 foot atleast.
Because the Afterbangs are so heavy, I would suggest you get them one size smaller than you thought at first. Then it will be easyier learning new tricks faster.
But I would not get the Abangs becasue I think they are to heavy and they suck outside the park. I would rather get the Punx i think (I havent tried them). But if you dont mind that they are heavy, only ski park but like something REALLY butterih, I would get them.
and to the guy that said afterbangs were stable on 50 foot jumps, it depends on the size of the rider. they washed out for me and were definitely not stable. now that's prolly cause i'm 5'10" and 160 riding 166s.
how bout you quote the whole sentence? no shit theyre not too soft for pros like jossi because hes small and doesnt weigh much, but i said theyre too soft for someone over 170 pounds. and the pros land alot cleaner than me or other normal skiers. and ive seen hatveit having problems on the punx when he doesnt land so great.
everyone has different tastes in the stiffness of a ski, just saying that i had difficulties with bigger jumps because i land backseat every once in a while.
^ I'd like to add that the pros don't necessarily use the punx as we know them. They might have the same graphics, but they probably customize the construction for events like JOI, etc.. They are really flexible and might not hold well on big big jumps.
Definiitely punx. I've never ridden afterbangs but tons of people have bad things to say about them. I've never heard a complaint for punx except for bad durability. And its not like afterbangs have great durability either. Punx are really fun, stable, pretty much everything youre looking for.
Owned A-bangs cause they are a decent cheap park ski, yeah they are a bit heavy and not the snappiest ski but I always liked them. Then I got a chance to ski the Punx in February and I am going to be skiing them now. I was amazing as to how a ski that weighed so little still felt so stable. Plus this year the A-bang is now 379 so it is only 20 bucks more for the Punx.
