Why don't British people drink water?

I just spent two weeks in England and Scotland playing golf.  I never once found a water dispenser at any of the golf courses I went to, and none of the restaurants I ate at served me water without me requesting it first.

If there are any UK residents on here at this early hour (4 am gmt), please explain this to me.

I mentioned earlier in the thread that you don't get water in resteraunts because we want you to pay for drinks.
