Shooting A Glow Ball Tournament

I take photos for all the local golf tournaments in my town. The head pro asked me if I could come to their glow ball tournament to shoot. For those of you that don't know glow ball is just golf where the balls have glowsticks in them to make them glow. What I don't get is what am I going to take pictures of? It's just gonna be dark. So basically I'm looking for ideas, +k to all that help out. I already have one idea, just doing a long exposure so you can see the balls path when it's hit. Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton guys.

Do you plan on putting photosbyns as your watermark? If not, its your job to visualize your own shots..

A few ideas I would consider is long exposure either from the prospective of the golfer or the hole, that way you will see the whole trail of the ball after it was hit. also consider the slight use of flash, not to bring the shots into daylight standards but to accent certain things.

Ya that's kinda what I had in mind! Except I wasn't thinking the perspective of the golfer which would look wicked cool so thanks. I definitely get what you're saying with the flash too. Thanks for helping man!

Maybe take a long exposure and then flash the golfer so you see his back swing (I think that's what it's called) along with the trail of the ball?

Camera on tripod, long exposure for the entire swing and flight of the ball, fire you flashes manually at the follow-through of the swing.

seems pretty tricky, you should do some test shots one night before the tourney

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm really disappointed with how it worked out though. I tried the long exposure with firing the flash at the end of the exposure, (not to good with terms, but that's rear curtain sync right?). The problem was that the golf balls themselves just weren't bright enough to be seen. I tried everything, I kept my flash power really low and they just were way too dim to be seen at all. The flash did freeze the golfer at the end of each exposure though and lit the golfer up enough to make it a good photo, just not the cool long exposure I was hoping for. Thanks again guys for some creative help.

PS I also fired my flash manually and like I said the ball was just too dim to be seen.

No not even a putt shot worked, they were pretty dim. They just had crappy dull glow sticks in them. The one ball that the head pro used was bright red and that would've worked but right as I was ready to take the shot of him the fucking sprinklers turned on so I got the fuck off that hole and went to just take regular flash shots of people. Another thing, focusing was a pain in the ass. Since it was pitch black out I had to manually focus (obviously) but there was no light for me to even see if I was in focus. Is there anything I could've done to make it a little easier? I mean I told the guy it was a good learning experience and I didn't want to get paid or anything for it. Plus it was pretty fun just being there. Everyone was super nice and I just had a good time.
