I will be buying the camera this summer, i would not like to spend much more over 700 dollars. there is a possibility i could get more to invest in the future but it is remain to be seen if i will.
2) What experience do you already have with cameras? Have you ever even used one before? Have you helped your friend out with his camera? Have you owned your own?
I have only ever used a gopro but i have helped friends use dvx-100b's before, they did all the adjusting the levels and all that and i just filmed it though. 3) What gear, if any, do you currently have? (tripod, old camera lenses, mics, etc)
I think i have a tripod laying around somewhere.
4) What are you planning to shoot and how do you want to use your camera? Are you going to use this with the sole purpose of shooting skiing? or do you think you might try other stuff as well (movies, documentaries, short films, etc)
this camera will be used for filming skiing 90% of the time, except if i want to bring it out to film some goofing around or something like that. probably wont get into making movies or short films.
5) Do you want a camera that you can hand to your friends, that could or could not have film experience, and let them shoot you? or will you be doing all the filming?
yes, i want to be able to have anyone i hand this too to be able to get the shot.
6) When filming skiing, how do you tend to shoot? (follow cams, leave it on record on a tripod and hike, film from a tripod, etc)
I will have a go pro for follow cams so this camera will be a stationary camera, but not always on a tripod.
7) What computer do you currently have/use to edit (if not currently editing, what would you most likely use)? If you can provide specifics, such as hard drive space, RAM, processor size, that would be great.

i have a mac book pro that was bought in the spring on 2010
7) What program do you currently edit on? How familiar are you with it (1- just learning; 10- I can make tutorials and know the keyboard layout)
I have edited on imovie, but i hate it so i will be using final cut pro x from the mac store unless someone can point me in a better direction.
SO WITH THAT BEING SAID, I was thinking something like this
