ok, ok, but the 49ers/saints game still was a good one. and packers fans were one recovered onside kick away of watching the game until the end. the margin of victory in the end was a well-deserved one, but the giants took too long to capitalize offensively, having the packers hanging on almost the whole game although they dominated them.

texans ravens was somehow over before because of how yates looked late in that game but it still went down to a hail mary were everything can happen.


the reason for the wild-card boredom, to me is that teams got in that were just not as good as their record indicated. bengals and falcons didnt play like playoff caliber teams and you could argue that the steelers and broncos were lucky to play each other.

if I were actually employed by the league I wouldn't let it happen, but it should be the teams with the best records getting in not division winners. I don't mind domination in a championship game where the point is to find out who the best of the best is but I'd like closer matchups in the early rounds, its not like every year is boring tho just this one

to me, when you look at all those upsets and stuff, i would also sort of vote for 16 playoff teams. maybe even keep that bye and let the "bad" teams duke it out at first

it would sort of depreciate regular season, but it seems like noone gives a fuck in general about it.

Surprised no one has commented on the Ravens-Pats game yet.  Regardless of who you're a fan of, I think we should all recognize that the Ravens should have been able to pull off the win, or at least overtime.  Professional kickers should not miss that field goal, regardless of however amount of pressure.  Lee Evans should have finished that catch as well.  Fuck, the Ravens just don't know how to win.  Joe Flacco did all he could, And Brady wasn't very good.

are you kidding? brady had a bad game but the rest of the team did fine. Baltimore deserved to lose, plain and simple. If you cant capitalize on a team not preforming at their best you dont deserve to make it to the super bowl.

this was a game were the ravens got a lot of little breaks at pretty legit times and couldnt put the game away. i mean they were +3 in turnovers ratio if i remember correctly up until 7 minutes into the 4th quarter and still trailed.

patriots offense didnt play well but baltimore couldnt capitalize on that. patriots defense made a lot of good plays at good times.

before that 4th and 6, wilfork sniffed out that shotgun draw play for minus 3-4 yards when they ran all over the pats from fullback sets on this drive. this playcall cost them a lot imo and possibly the game.

see brady was ok all game but not elite, missing at least one TD in the first quarter and not being able to convert a single 4th down on those two crucial drives late in the game which would have essentially put the game away. the 4th down play was the same they ran earlier with that whip route to pitta. earlier, flacco threw the ball on time and indefensibly well while this time, with the game on the line, he didnt dare to throw it.

but the ravens did just too little all game despite all the patriots blunders. i could say a lot of "what ifs" right now for this game and most of them would lead to a two score win for the pats at least.

it was a tough win and i dont think that anybody was "bad", imo it was just two good teams going against each other and the ravens defense neutralizing the patriots offense as much as possible (23 pts) and the patriots defense doing just enough on 3-5 seperate occassions to stop the ravens offense.

The Patriots did not win, the Ravens just lost.  This was the second year in a row where on a crucial last minute drive, Flacco threw an important pass to a wide receiver that has only been with the Ravens for one year, and they just dropped it.  Last year it was T.J. Houshmandzadeh, this year it was Lee Evans, in the end zone, with 20 seconds left.  He just got lazy after he caught it, and thats why the Patriots corner was able to hit the ball from him.  And then to go on and miss a 32 yard field goal that should've put the game into overtime where it would a 50-50 chance basically at who wins.  The Ravens didn't deserve to win, but they deserved to go to overtime.

see, i was on "your" side quite a few times the last few years being a chargers (vs jets 2 years back) and pats fan.

but it was a tough and close game and whoever misses a 30yd FG will lose it.

i am not saying that this was a sure and easy win and well-deserved. i even admit that i was pretty sure that the ravens will just run the ball through the middle for a TD before they went for it on 4th & 6 after that hilariously bad draw call on 3rd down.

close game and finally one of "my" teams grinded a tough one out.

until i see an OT in a playoff game that is the first scheduled one of the evening, I FUCKING DO BELIEVE THAT THE NFL SORT OF "plans" GAMES.

seriously, 49ers-saints, first game of the evening, other game is already waiting for it, and what? captain checkdown DARES to throw the ball on a 3rd 3 for ~15 yds?

yesterday, same shit. ravens and pats. pretty safe bet that there shouldve been an OT.

and both OTs that actually happened were in late games.

Id say the opposite, great 'finish' to an average season and below average playoffs

Also I really believe that they would have initially ruled that a TD if it were Brady and Welker instead of Flacco and Evans, or would have ruled it a catch and a fumble if it weren't in the endzone.

it was a "difficult" play to keep track of. like under 2 minutes, where is the ball spot on a fumble OOB when the fumble occurred before the 1st down marker and the ball went OOB afterwards? does the clock keep on running or not? they were obviously not aware of the rules and then took too long to implement the refs rulings. its not excusable to lose track of it all but i can understand that it happened because it was really a once in 1000 game situation.

ravens fans should embrace that the ball didnt stay in bounds there or that moore didnt pick off the 3rd down throw by flacco (2nd down was the pass breakup by moore on evans, for the record).

sorry to break it to anybody but to miss a 32 yd FG while "feeling rushed" is unacceptable. they still had the timeout, he shouldve called it himself if he felt rushed.

this had nothing to do with that guys. the problem was the playcall before that crucial 4th down earlier, making it a 51 yd FG. then you dont trust your kicker to make that one and all of a sudden you end up in a situation where you need exactly that kicker to still save your ass.

why do the refs even make those signals? why are the down markers there?

i admit that it was a mistake, but cundiff will be the first to tell you that it still was HIS mistake.

and ultimately, i blame harbaugh for not handling this situation correctly. HE lost track of the situation.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't the ball forced out due to the ground, and therefore not a fumble?  Because I remember when watching the replay (but I may be wrong), the ball slid out when Boldin hit the ground, but I can't find a video of it anywhere to watch it again.

Also, a timeout would just put more pressure on Cundiff.  And I doubt Cundiff had the time to tell Harbaugh that he was feeling rushed, because I'm not even sure if Harbaugh noticed the mistake on the scoreboard, he was probably aware that it was 4th down anyways, he just didn't talk to Cundiff who wasn't sure.  Overall, I'm not really sure what happened, but I agree with you that Cundiff should've taken the 51 yard field goal.  Because even if he missed that, he would probably feel way more confident about the 32 yard field goal.

but thats not the point. to me, this all couldve been avoided if the ravens didnt call that stupid draw out of the shotgun on 3rd & 2 from the pats 30 or so. they ran all over the fucking defense with 21 personel on that drive. the 3-4 yd loss (HUGE PLAY BY VINCE WILFORK) made it a 51 yd FG. i am pretty sure that harbaugh would have sent out the FG unit for a 47-48 yd FG, in case they get stuffed for a loss (unlikely).

its crazy how all these little things can change a game. somehow its bad because it makes the playoffs like rolling a dice and gives (to me) the regular season more importance.

if i was a ravens fan, i would be pretty mad about the game because they had tom brady controlled and got 3 turnovers and couldnt grind a tough one out.

i am actually surprised and impressed that the pats (kind of a "soft" team the last few years) could outmuscle the ravens in a dirty and tough game.

yeah but normally youre secondary looks a lot better when your line is dominant. take the giants or 49ers as examples.

both went into the season and for various reasons their secondaries were considered sub-average. now they play like fucking all-pros.

football is so much played from inside out and from front to back, its not even funny. if you win in the trenches, you can afford to have some journeyman DBs, WRs and RBs (or even QBs for that matter).

Ya, I'm very mad.  I'm overall mad at sports right now since the Terps basketball isn't even doing so hot right now.  But the Ravens just need to learn how to win.  The game against the Steelers at the Steelers home was pretty much the first time the Ravens won a huge game with a last minute drive, there's probably some other games that I can be reminded of but none that come to mind other than that Steelers game.  I just think the Ravens are beating themselves.  They have so much potential; the only thing they ever really lose to is themselves (except the Chargers game).

i agree. but the whole "losing to themselves" thing is sometimes used a little bit too much. i agree with its use when its obvious mental errors (fumbles, especially on PR/KR, missing blocks and missing a defensive assigment/blown coverage).

when another team puts the brakes on you and makes you look bad (like the ravens did against the patriots offense), youre not beating yourself.

i dont watch ravens games too often, so i cant really tell, i just wanted to point that out in general. without being a HUGE eagles fan, they for example beat themselves A LOT and consistently.

sometimes its just bad luck and sometimes you lose even though youre better. sports are tough sometimes.
